Austria, Mining am Inn - Metalfest Open Air Austria

Formerly three festivals of their own Austria's Summer Nights Open Air, Switzerland's Metal Dayz and Germany's Legacyfest have joined forces under the Metalfest moniker. Tied together and coordinated by the well-known agency Rock The Nation (Metalcamp, Heathenfest, Paganfest, Into Darkness Festival, Neckbreakers Ball, Full of Hate Fest) this festival series has also spawned two more daughter festivals in Budapest, Hungary and Plzen, Czech Republic which take place one week later.

Since Rock The Nation is an Austrian agency it comes as no surprise that the Austrian edition is the flagship festival. As such it features 96 bands on three stages. Headliners of this festival are Britain's mighty death metal armada Bolt Thrower, Bay Area thrashers Testament and the exclusive world premier of Twilight Of The Gods, a Bathory tribute band composed of the extreme metal heavyweights Alan Nemtheanga of Primordial on vocals, guitarists Blasphemer (Mayhem) and Patrik Lindgren (Thyrfing), former Immortal bassist Iscariah and drum monster Nick Barker of Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth, Benediction and Lock Up fame. More highlights are the "Pagan Alliance", a two hour set of Eluveitie and Finntroll combined, the first open air shows of Poland's Decapitated since their resurrection and many, many more. The full festival lineup can be found below.

The festival takes place at the medieval castle of Mamling near Mining am Inn in Upper Austria, 70 km north of Salzburg, 110 km west of Linz and 130 km east of Munich.
Each of these cities also has an international airport, so if you want to arrive by plane, the Wikipedia sites of Salzburg Airport, Linz Airport and Munich Airport will inform you about connections and destinations.
If you want to arrive by train you might want to consult the time tables at the site of the ÖBB, the Austrian railway service. If you come from across the German border the portal of the Deutsche Bahn might also be of help for you.
If you want to arrive by car, Google Maps will show you the way.

That's not even that dramatic. What pisses me off to no end is that in the new running order (will upload it tomorrow) Benighted will play two hours earlier and before Mining's traditional folk band! That's not only a lame ripoff of Wacken's Firefighters, it's also a slap in the face for any hard working band!

And the best band of the whole festival has been.... ENFORCER!!! Holy shit, that sure was a surprise! I had zero expectations towards them, but was totally blown away by their enthusiasm, spirit and energy! Legion of the Damned also surprised me positively. They've come a long way since I've seen them the last time in 2006.

Full review is coming up soon. I'll have to finish the review for Ragnarök Festival first though.
