#13 is pretty strange out here. It's more of a kiddish than children doom. Need to dig it more of Wiken Wij and Warning. Rest is all one place of a pretty good DOOOOOOOM carton box.

I was actually rather surprised to see Nortt here, although you definitely get kudos from me for that. This is a very well-rounded list of some heavyweight releases. Nicely done.
PS MdG being referred to as "children doom"?

Why? It's doom, right? I never saw it as something else. Just Funeral Doom under a black metal blanket (aka the production)... Great shit.
Oh, and great list. I disagree in a couple of cds (I think MDB's debut is their best) but overall this is a really strong and varied list that shows how much is behind the tag DOOM. Oh, and I like that you put The Silent Enigma in the list. It's their best metal album hands down.

I wasn't surprised because of the genre, I was surprised at BitterCOld liking Nortt.

Not sure why that is surprising. i enjoy doom. i enjoy black metal. i enjoy ambient music of the non-metal variety. Nortt tends to straddle the intersection where those three meet.

I've just never heard you talk about Nortt before, whereas none of these other albums surprised me since I've seen you at least mention them once or twice (and in some cases, a lot more than that).

It's official; I love doom more than my future children. This list fucking owns already. I like every album I've heard off it so far considerably (which is only 5 as of today), so I'm sure to listen to all of these.
Checking out Alloy now, and you're right, "The Arrival" is amazing. This could be the most epic-sounding thing I've ever heard.
Evoken and Esoteric (I can only shudder at the depression to come) are next.

This is an excellent introduction for anyone looking to get into doom. It's not 1:1 what my list would be, but pretty damn close. (I'd have some more epic doom like Solstice, and possibly not quite as much funeral.) Gotta check out the few albums I've yet to hear. Never heard Wijlen Wij, Faal or Septic Mind at least.

In wouldn't call them depressive.. Just monstruous sounds that tear you apart, specially Esoteric. Not exactly a happy thing but not a sad one either

Great list. A similar list of mine would have more Folk Doom (Kauan - Lumikuuro, Empyrium's first two albums, and Uaral - Sounds of Pain would definitely be on my list), though I agree with a lot of these choices... except for Nightfall over Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. I never understood why people like Nightfall more, since it's really a no-brainer for me. Even more so, I think Bewitched is probably the weakest song on the album, but never mind. And for what it's worth, I think The Silent Enigma is definitely the best work of Anathema by a long shot. Actually it's the only album along with their debut that I really enjoy. The other albums just aren't my cup of tea.

This.
Also, I adore this list, even if I'm disappointed by the lack of Pentagram.

there's all no Black Sabbath in it, so only fair to leave the copiers out as well, don't you think?

Didn't even see this until today when this thread was back on top of the List folder.
I just happen to prefer Nightfall to EDM, largely for sentimental reasons. Bewitched isn't my fave track on the album... At The Gallow's End is. It's my fave Candlemass song, as a bottle of Laphroaig in Marcel's possession can attest.
Bewitched just has that hilarious video and is a short enough, snarky quote to fit the description.
