Goatwhore is that scuzzy childhood friend. He's a little predictable, and sure, maybe he's the type of person who would put his own mother in a chokehold for a klondike bar, but he's dependable. In need of a thorough shower or not, he always knows how to show you a good time.

Wow, lots of melody. Unexpected but really good. These guys continue to impress me.

My mouth is literally watering.

I got bored at half of it. Not as good as the first one.

Only listened to it a couple of times so far, but all in all good. There's some melody but still a lot of fast thrashy/punky riffs. Definitely one of the bands I'm always excited to hear new music by. Digging it.

Favorite songs: Baring Teeth For Revolt, FBS

This is basically another Blood For The Master, and I'm perfectly fine with that. Riffs are glorious, vocals are scathing, and there are some positively insane moments on some of the songs. FBS is probably a favorite of mine, too. Hoorah, Goatwhore.

Holy smokes this is great! All the way through. It reminds me a bit of Skeletonwitch's best hooks and riffs but with more power! Not to take anything away from Skeletonwitch though.
Favorite songs, Baring Teeth For Revolt and Schadenfreude.

Definitely their best work to date, but I'm not really in love. Probably worth around a 7.5 for me. If it had more of an edge and a bit more variety I'd definitely score it higher. Good release though

Dammit man, now all I can think about is this image about a minute after that scene (I always wondered what particular drug he took here).

If I were Nick Cage I'd probably be pretty high as well.

I've been a fan of Nic Cage since Raising Arizona... Nic Cage doesn't give a fuck on how ridiculous he looks or is perceived. He is movie magic... sometimes.

Didn't really like it, sorry. The drums are great and there's some nice riffs here and there, but there's also lots of really tired and recycled sounding ones too and the songs get a bit bland. My main problem though is the weak sounding guitars that lack bite and the really unpleasant vocal style. I can't profess to have ever been into that band that much but I'm sure A Haunting Curse was a lot meaner and grittier than this.

Not hearing much death metal here though. This sounds more like blackened speed / thrash metal with a bit of punk, or something, with a bit of chug at points.

I think that's always been Goatwhore's style to be honest. I never really lumped them in with the death metal crowd, although I suppose their back catalog was a little more death-influenced. Since 200...6? or so I think their direction has been more of a blackened punk/thrash thing.

Yup, I reported that on the mistakes forum a while back. There's definitely a significant amount of thrash in their style.

I've had their first 3 albums for some years now (they were in a buddy's collection whom I let borrow my EHD to back up his collection when we were brief roomies), but I never really could make it past Funeral Dirge, they just never really engaged me. But this has got me quite engaged. Making me want to acquire the albums I don't already have so I can go through their whole discography and see if I'll look any of their other albums (I haven't tried to listen to those first 3 in some years, so it could just be that my tastes have evolved to a point that I will appreciate them more now ).

I get the impression that there's more of a prominent black metal influence in this album than in any of the previous Goatwhore records, though not by that much either. I mean, songs like "Reanimated Sacrifice" and "Schadenfreude" bring to mind the early 90s black metal sounds, though elsewhere it's obvious Goatwhore still like their thrash and death metal styles to be still evident. As for the album itself, it's more thoroughly solid stuff, and still not overly impressive enough to warrant a higher rating. Whatever, Goatwhore do this stuff effortlessly, however simple it can get.
