The vocals are amazing, he keeps sounding better with age. The songwriting is very mature and the lyrics are very well thought of, and meaningful. You can tell a lot of thought and emotion has gone into this album, although I found it wee bit dull at times, but I suppose they aren't getting any younger.

This is in danger of being my favourite of theirs since Marbles. Certainly feels their most consistent for some while - and a definite step up from Fuck Everyone...

Their previous had its moments, but I agree. 'Sounds That Can't Be Made' is prob my favorite. This new release reminds me more of that album.

Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age but this is up there with the best of the Hogarth-era albums and possibly my favourite of the year so far. No doubt it will be ignored and underrated as usual.

Great album although there seems to be some brick walling with the sound.

Great album although there seems to be some brick walling with the sound.

what is "brick walling"?

It means lack of dynamics, everything is the same volume and louder than it should be. Like a hard limiter has been put on the audio files. This video has a pretty good example of that:

To me the album just does not have as good of a sound as it should and really does the album a disservice.

Can't stop listening to this juicy slice of prog rock excellence. Every track is killer. As me old man used to say: 'this is proper music'.

I've been revisiting my Fish era Marillion records. This is something I tend to do 2 or 3 times a year.

Over the years since Fish left I've tried several of the Hogarth era releases (Seasons, Brave, Marbles, and one or two others), but I've never felt that same magic. That sense of the dramatic he brought, is always missing for me.

I've tried this latest one, but I get the same feeling of anti-climax. I went to quite a few of the early Fish solo shows during the Vigil and Internal Exile tours, but how I would have loved to have been at one of those Fish era Marillion shows.
