I discovered this band very recently but it took me one listen to "With Vilest Worms To Dwell" to realize that it was one of the best melodeath albums i've ever heard. Hollenthon is the band's name and they play some kind of Symphonic Melodeath, very original and interesting indeed. I think that you'll like them. Check: http://www.myspace.com/hollenthonofficial

I think you probably did already, but you should listen to old school melodeath, like At the gates, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Soilwork. Do that and heroicness will be instantaneous.

hmm, they call themselves melodic death...I'm not convinced if thats completely accurate or not but they're close, and heavy nonetheless - of course they're heavy, they're Swedish - but you can always try out Blinded Colony.

news, recommendations, some people. it's not the forum itself which is hopeless, but it's people who recommend some metalcore crap in a melodic death metal thread

I'm going to throw out a few bands, some well known, some barely known, but each great. Dark Tranquillity Kalmah Be'lakor Disarmonia Mundi The Black Dahlia Murder (includes Ryan Knight of Arsis) Valyria (link to their bandcamp in my sig below) Darkest Hour (don't listen to any album Kris Norris isn't on. You will regret it) At The Throne of Judgement In Flames (The Jester's Race is bad ass, but I PERSONALLY don't like their other albums) Scar Symmetry All That Remains (first 3 albums only. Everything after The Fall of Ideals is too mainstream, but The Fall of Ideals was awesome!)

I've recently discovered an obscure MDM band from the US called Deadtide. They're very, very close to the early In Flames sound for me, especially The Jester Race. https://metalstorm.net/bands/band.php?band_id=25989&bandname=Deadtide https://deadtide.bandcamp.com/album/ephemeral-melodic-death-metal-ep-album
