Beautiful albums make cute reviews.
But I have rarely seen reviews for NY hardcore bands in the form of haikus, so if you are looking for poetry, go elsewhere. Or you know what? Just stay.
It smells like sweat here
Gang shouts merging in my ears!
This band is okay
There.
So yeah, In Other Climes play a pretty standard breed of -core we've all come to know as New York hardcore, represented by bands such as Hatebreed, Madball, etc etc. The genre has often been decried for several reasons - many focusing on the behaviour of fans of the style - and one being for its lack of variety and innovation. And unfortunately these Frenchmen didn't dodge the pitfall, except on a few highlight tracks such as the crossover piece "Brainwashed," the Motörhead-esque "Have You Ever," and the fast-rapped "Sincerely Yours" - all of which come late in the tracklist. As a consequence, one can safely say Leftover really gets better as it's unravelling, and makes you wish they practised what they preach in "We Are An European Band" a little more: in other words I wish they sounded much less like their American colleagues.
In Other Climes got themselves a little name in the scene these last few years, and put out a good number of releases. I remember they used to throw in the face of their listener more thrashy riffs, like in their killer side of the split with Confronto. Whether it is the loss of a part of their crossover personality, or the presence of some filler songs, this third opus isn't as convincing as I know it could have been. However, there is no denying that the members know how to do their job - especially the bassist that I find myself following more than the others. Leftover is a fun ride, and displays the genuine, original attitude of
You got it, this is a groovy album you put on when the party isn't going hard enough.
