Imagine if Tuomas Saukkonen [Wolfheart, Dawn Of Solace] and Sami Yli-Sirniö [Waltari, Kreator] were to join Mors Principium Est to form a Finnish superband. I would venture to say that they would sound very close to Path Of Destiny. But put that Suomi dictionary away, Path Of Destiny hail from the Thuringia region of Germany. The Seed Of All Evil is already their third album and this band is on an ascendant path.
I might do a disservice to the band by describing their music by comparison but between the cover art and song names like "March Of The Antichrist", it is hard not to evoke their countrymen Kreator. However, as a whole their sound is more akin to Wolfheart or to Mors Principium Est. Few bands manage to emulate that intense melodic death harshness but these guys do just that. The intensity flows courtesy of Christian Reinhard and Alexander Helfer on guitars, Christoph Silge on bass and keyboards, and Sebastian Schaffert on vocals/growls. With the addition of Jonas Pfeiffer as a session drummer, this band has a solid base from which to unleash their powerful songs. Whether it is the blistering "Necromantic Storm", the symphonic thrash combo on "Erased By Light", or the brutal yet anthem-like "Wave Goodbye To Sanity", Path Of Destiny impress by their technical mastery and flawless delivery. The dark atmosphere on "From Heaven They Fall", which is borderline symphonic black, the build-up on "March Of The Antichrist" and the driving melody of "The Crown Of Creation" are among the highlights.
The Seed Of All Evil is an onslaught of symphonic melodic death metal full of thrash influences. It is a direct yet complex album, with layers of sound coming at you in a short time span. It has the right equilibrium of atmosphere-building versus engaging melodies. Path Of Destiny are making a big statement with this album. They are here to slay, and they are here to stay. Check it out.
