All You Can Get.

Ironflame, the band from Martins Ferry, Ohio, is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist genius Andrew D’Cagna, who started the project in late 2016. Kingdom Torn Asunder, released in 2024 as Ironflame’s fifth album, is a showcase of D’Cagna’s versatility beyond his drumming roles. Here, he takes on nearly every musical responsibility, playing bass, guitars, and drums while also handling the vocals. The album blends traditional heavy metal with US power metal, bringing together classic metal elements with a modern touch. Known for his work in metal projects like Nechochwen, Obsequiae, and Icarus Witch, D’Cagna reigns supreme in this project with complete creative authority, crafting and playing all the instruments with the exception of the riveting guitar solos. His commanding vocals, blending raw intensity with breathtaking finesse, evoke the spirit of iconic figures such as Michael Kiske and Bruce Dickinson.

Opening with "Blood And Honor", the album immediately transports listeners on a powerful journey through nostalgic power metal soundscapes. Songs like "Soul Survivors" and "Majesty Of Steel" showcase infectious riffs, memorable melodies, and jaw-dropping solos courtesy of Quinn Lukas and Jesse Scott. The album maintains a high level of energy and musicianship from start to finish, seamlessly transitioning between fast-paced anthems and epic, slower tracks that captivate and mesmerize the listener.

While rooted in traditional metal, Kingdom Torn Asunder avoids feeling outdated with its modern production. Songs like "Sword Of A Thousand Truths" offer epic choruses and fantasy-themed lyrics, reflecting D’Cagna's passion and heavy metal's enduring appeal. Andrew D’Cagna stands out as a one-man medieval fantasy army, and this album is more than just music; it’s a tribute to metal’s legacy, executed with precision. For fans of traditional and US power metal, it’s a must-listen. Ironflame firmly establishes itself among the leading acts of the new wave of US power metal, alongside Eternal Champion and Visigoth. Kingdom Torn Asunder, recorded in Cologne, Germany, with D’Cagna at the helm of production, also showcases amazing cover art created by the talented Mike Hoffman.

Compared to Ironflame’s previous releases, on Kingdom Torn Asunder, D’Cagna continues to refine his sound, demonstrating a greater level of sophistication and ambition. This latest album not only solidifies his musical prowess but also elevates it to new heights. Building upon the strong foundation of his previous work, this project offers a more immersive and satisfying journey for listeners.

Listening to Kingdom Torn Asunder is like indulging in a lavish all-you-can-eat feast, where the offerings keep coming until you reach the point of satiation. While Ironflame may occasionally flirt with excess, this abundance is a delightful indulgence, combining all the ingredients to make one of the greatest power metal records of 2024. Epic, anthemic, and filled with virtuosity, this album offers something for everyone, making it a fun and enjoyable listen.
