01. Hell-O)))-Ween
02. BassAliens
03. Decay2 (Nihils' Maw)
04. Decay (The Symptoms Of Kali Yuga) [double vinyl edition bonus]
This is maybe the oddest form of music out there, I really don't know exactly what to think about "White 2" but I will try to explain the essence of the music, or at least the meaning or something.
What Sunn O))) does is more o less the following:
a) They Create atmospheres in the vein of really obscure Doom; also they add all kind of dark feelings to the environment using nothing but strings and sometimes audio effects.
b) They use ridiculously low Bass tones, in fact some of the bass-lines are impossible to catch without the proper volume.
c) Sunn O))) are masters in creating songs with the length of an entire album, then again those songs are somehow not boring.
This particular band could be the most Elitist band I've ever heard in my entire life, the rule "Either you love it or you hate it" fits and applies accurately with Sunn O))). The music is really bizarre, yes, but it's not technical or complex at all, the tunes are structured like this:
-We play just one or two strings?we hold those strings for some minutes-
-We do that again with another set of strings-
So as you may notice, there is no science in Sunn O)))'s music, the real deal comes in the backgrounds, in the ambience, and in the feelings.
You won't notice there was a bass-line until the song stops, and I'm serious, the album opener "Hell-O)))-Ween" starts in a really mellow way, then after almost 15 minutes the song finishes, the feeling of low-gravity involves your brain instantly, it's really cool and all. This is what I call creativity, cause as I already said, there is no complexity in the songs, everything sums up in playing really fucking low Bass-Lines, and we all know Low tones get inside our head even though our ears can't appreciate them right?, so who knows with what type of information or messages Sunn O))) is packing our brains.
Anyway, I won't rate this album because I honestly do not know which grade they deserve, I'll keep the review as it is now, an objective viewing of "White 2" no grades attached. Just be warned, getting Sunn O))) will be a really fucking odd experience, not good or bad just different, but this experience will cost you a new set of speakers, so it's your call.
