Pagan Black Metal is trendy in the East of Europe. You still need a proof? Well then check the new album of Hellveto, the one-man project of Mr L.O.N. who comes from Poland. Well I cannot really talk about Pagan Metal here, but more about atmospheric Black a la Summoning and Abigor but still when you'll listen to this album, you'll probably see that it is the same spirit. Is it good or not? Well actually it really depend of your interest for this kind of music, but the fans of the style will probably find some good stuff in the album.

Mixing Symphonic music (played by Keyboards), Folk elements with acoustic music and pure Black Metal, "Zmierzch" isn't a linear album. The songs are varied and you'll be able to find a good sound. Note however that this album is an album of Black which means that it is heavy and aggressive in general but the addition of the "Pagan Folk Atmospheric" sound give something more in addition.

"Zmierzch" is not a bad album especially if you like good "frozen" Atmospheric ambiances. This is the strong point of the album, the dark ambiances are really good. Plus, if I'm not a fan of the Black Metal side of the album, I must admit that the different melodic breaks with really good acoustic arpeggio are extremely pleasant, and you'll be able to find them on a lot of songs.

However, the production is a bit weak. And with 17 albums in ten years I'm not sure that L.O.N. is able to produce the best every time. I mean that with a lot of releases, it's just impossible to have a great and unique inspiration for all your writings and we can feel it on this release. It's not bad, but not outstanding too and it doesn't sound so fresh. Also with lyrics in Polish it's impossible for a basic listener to understand something and it doesn't help a lot (evidently I'm not blaming this language because it sounds good but this kind of albums always have interesting lyrics and here we can't read them?).

All in all, if you just want a correct album of Atmospheric Black Metal, you'll have to check this release. I'm not saying that "Zmierzch" is a great album in the style but there are some good things in this release so at the end, maybe that you'll find a real interest in this album, especially if you're a fan of cool frozen and folky ambiances.
