Girlschool is one of those old bands which never became a legend but that everybody knows (at least by their name). If you're too young anyway to know this British combo, you have to know that it was probably one of the first combos entirely composed by girls and their first two albums were actually really good. After some average albums during the middle of the 80's and 90's the girls are finally back four year after their last album "Believe" but without Kelly Johnson who died of a Cancer last year? Without any doubt, "Legacy" is one of the best releases that the Girlschool have done for a lot of time so if you like cool Hard Rock and Heavy Metal you should try this release as soon as possible.

Girlschool music is not the most innovative thing ever done but that's good catchy Rock nonetheless and even if the band is not a newcomer and plays old school Metal this album doesn't sound so old. The riffs are effective and we have cool Rock N Roll spirit in each song which always feature catchy choruses which are not cheesy or too commercial. True, this is not revolutionary and a bit cliché on a side but some songs like "I Spy" with its dark melody or the catchy "Still Waters" or finally the really good cover of "Metropolis" (which clearly show why Motörhead is one of their big influences) are excellent. On a side "Legacy" is maybe a bit repetitive and a bit long with time but some songs work really well and I'm sure that the fans of the combo will enjoy a lot this album which is, in my opinion, one of the best works released by the British combo.

The production of "Legacy" is impressive and when you just have a look at the names of the guests featured on this release, this is simply amazing. Lemmy, Dio, JJ French or Iommi (among many others) play on this album and give something else in addition. The sound of the release is extremely good and modern and the cover art is classy. The girls (and it was not easy for Jackie Chambers to replace Kelly Chambers) play well, really there is nothing to say against this release except that it's not so surprising of course?

It's always good to see that old bands like Girlschool are still able to release good albums. Don't expect to listen to the album of the century but if you like old school music I'm sure that you'll like this release. Have a look at it if you want to discover this cult band and be sure anyway that you'll have good time listening to this release. That's great that Girlschool is still active despite Kelly Johnson death; let's hope that the girls will continue to play their music for a long time.

Metropolis was a Motorhead cover, not just influenced. Oh, Iommy? Iommi

Other than that, pretty accurate review overall.

Thanks for being understanding, I couldn't find a way of posting that above without sounding like a dick. But like I said, accurate review. A lot of nice riffs and cool songs, nothing incredible or ground breaking, just straight forward metal.
