Ranking My 1988 Thrash Metal Releases
As the name implies, 1988 is probably the best (deepest) year for thrash metal releases outside the 1986 "Big 4" (well, big 3 that year) releases. The biggest names didn't release their best albums, but I think 1988 overall was far deeper, in no small part due to the success and acclaim thrash received from 1986. I rank the ones I know and have

2.
Bathory
- Blood Fire Death
1988 - Blackened thrash (100/10) - the best blackened thrash album ever released, and the prototype from which the subgenre (d)evolved

|
3.
Coroner
- Punishment For Decadence
1988 - (10/10) - a good choice for best technical thrash album ever released, although I'd give their `No More Color` the slightest of nods over this one

5.
Pestilence
- Malleus Maleficarum
1988 - (9.9/10) - probably the best brutal thrash/death-thrash album ever, behind Spectrum of Death for me
|
|
6.
Vio-lence
- Eternal Nightmare
1988 - (9.8/10) - absolute ripper of intensity, love this album. Only album from theirs where the vocals don't bug me

7.
Slayer
- South Of Heaven
1988 - (9.8/10) - huge departure from RiB, and it did take time to grow on me, but I love it now)
