Is it me, or is it a bit redundant to be a new band releasing a debut in this style of death metal in 2022? It's perfectly fine, just does absolutely nothing to stand out from the crowd.

I feel very similarly about retro/old-school DM bands emerging at this time, but since there still seems to be a market for up-and-coming retro-thrash and NWOBHM bands, I can't say I'm surprised new OSDM bands find an audience, and as someone with my own generic genre album tastes (post-metal, stoner), I can't find it to be too negative about generic efforts in genres I have less patience for

That's fair enough. And I absolutely don't begrudge bands making whatever music they like. Perhaps it's just the personality-less nature of this particular type of DM/this album that made me feel it was time I could have better spent listening to something else.

Oh I also think listening to this record was an unproductive use of my time; I doubt I would have given it a second glance if a) it hadn't made a brief entry on the top 20 list for 2022 and b) I knew that it was so generic in its approach

Sadly for us fans, only Morbid Angel can sound like Morbid Angel. This, at times, sounds like a bad attempt to copy Blessed Are the Sick...

Good ol' death metal. Loved the last track "wreaker of pain".
