Nowadays, few bands could willfully disregard the divisions between power metal and black metal, but for bands that were around to witness the birth of both genres, those divisions are merely a matter of arbitrary semantics. Not a bad album, but unfortunately the production was a real dissapointment, it had so much potential, and could of been a contender for heavy metal AOTY. There are some outstanding riff melodies like the main riffs on "From The Dark", "Astarte", "Altars In Hell", "Warcry", and "Mysticum", and the songwriting and overall performance is great, the vocals would also gave been great if not let down by the atrocious mix and poor quality production, the guitar tone could of done with beefing up a wee bit aswel.
