Last year, I was at a CD store and this album, for some odd reason, seemed to call out to me. Maybe it's because of the amazing cover art or maybe it was just me, I'll never know. I've only been a metalhead for a short time (2 years). The first real metal band that I listened to was Iron Maiden, then I heard about Slayer, and the Lamb Of God, Children Of Bodom, Tool, In Flames, Trivium, etc. Previous to being in the music store, I had heard about Opeth from a friend and I had actually heard two tracks from the new release, those being, GHOST OF PERDITION, and THE GRAND CONJURATION. I thought that these two tracks were absolutely mindblowing, and so as I was saying, the album called out to me, so I bought it. What a good choice I made.

Can't go wrong with this album. Brilliant effort from Opeth, You need to buy this album if you never heard it. I wish Opeth makes another album as good as Ghost Reveries. Watershed Sucks!

I personally find all Opeth releases extremely enjoyable; very easy to listen to, digestible, but this is my least favourite. They made up for it on Watershed though in my opinion.

Then we aren't on the same opinion. I personally think almost all Opeth songs are overwritten. I still enjoy the songs, but none of them are my favourite.

This is the first Opeth album I listened to. I had to check out the rest of their discography of course and although I like their other albums I was disappointed that I didn't find anything as good as this release - a classic, one of my favorite albums EVER.

Listened to it at least five times, don't remember anything. Wasn't good enough to remember.

Listened to it again after some time had passed. Had the complete opposite reaction. Ordered the album today. Will listen to it to death when I get it. Strange...

It took a month to sink in. It happens. But isn't it a great feeling when you start loving an album, which used to be totally weird or just bad? I think I had a similar experience with Ghost Reveries, and now it's one of my favorite Opeth albums.

Indeed, it's a great feeling of discovery and appreciation. Now I am just afraid that Opeth might ruin every other band for me

Personaly speaking Ghost Reveries is Opeths finest album..da range is vast..starting with the Brilliant Ghost Of Perdition and then continuing the madness with Baying Of The Hounds and Beneath The Mire..the energy is orgasmic and then Opeth offers Their Ace..The Grand Conjuration..along with a some brilliant mellow pieces like atonement and isolation years..a priceless album indeed!

I, like almost everyone, am a giant Opeth fan and have heard it all multiple times.

Ghost Reveries is my favorite. Its the most polished and listenable album and I love every freakin' second of it.

You should read to the end of the page before quoting, mate. I didn't erase the comment where I expressed my dislike for the album after I acquired the taste for it and changed my mind. Instead I quoted myself and said what I now thought of them. I never pretend that I didn't say something I did.

Truly amazing album and one of my favorites by the band (now my number 1 favorite from them). It's a perfect balance of both their death metal (Ghost of Perdition, Baying of the Hounds, Grand Conjuration) and progressive rock sounds (Atonement, Hours of Wealth, Isolation Years) that I very much enjoy. Grand Conjuration is actually the song that got me into death metal music so that certainly helps.

At first I thought the same thing, but after a few listens of Watershed, everything seemed to click. Watershed, Ghost Reveries, Blackwater Park, and My Arms, Your Hearse are definitely my favorite Opeth albums, and that's saying a lot, because I love every single album they have and think that they're all goddamn masterpieces.

how are they overwritten? if u are talking about the length of the songs: its progressive stuff. the songs are meant to be long and take u on a journey (an enjoyable fulfilling one at that), its not meant to be super-duper catchy and super-duper easy accessible where u digest it right away. i assume u are not a huge fan of progressive stuff but if u are i dont see how opeth overwrites anything that isnt well-thought out.

The first album I heard from Opeth. Just blew my mind. Perfect in every fucking possible way. I think the performance of clean vocals here is the best in all Opeth albums.

I agree that is the high point of the album. The rest is a bit of a let down after that brilliant song.

Reverie/Harlequin Forest is my personal favorite but I love every other song on this album the same.

I agree with all of that. I believe The Grand Conjuration was the first I heard off of it, and that song amazed me too. But overall I really see a level of consistency in songwriting quality on this album; the whole thing is great to listen to (which I can't say the same for about some of the other Opeth albums).
