I don't know what to call the initial barrier that a listener usually has with albums like this, but it has been empirically proven that such a phenomenon exists, and most probably you will have to experience it if you dare take upon the journey laid out by the one and only Between The Buried And Me on their new album.

Between The Buried And Me is a foreign entity. Their music is out of this world and these aliens keep up the good form with The Parallax II: Future Sequence. They really know how to make challenging prog, and what's better than a concept album? Expect the usual head-spinning craziness, mind-blowing sequences and crushing discharges. A truly unique voyage.

I dont believe BTBAM play lengthy tracks to bore you.

I doubt that's their intention, yeah. And I'm not even bored. It's just that a shorter album would have more of an impact. It would simply be a better listening experience, for me anyway. I'm happy to sit listening to Tori Amos for four hours straight as she's my favorite artist of all time, but I still wish most of her albums were better edited and more compact.

I hear ya buddy

This album is a masterpiece and deserves a 10/10. The album is supposed to be long, yet, after the last song, I am left under the impression that I just started listening to it... I want more.

Seeing a lot of positive comments and really not surprised. I haven't heard the album yet but BTBAM have always been some of the few forward thinkers left in metal. Their songs stretch on for ages but still keep you easily entertained, their vocals transition from harsh to soft and always fit perfectly... Just a well rounded band.

Seeing how I normally dislike the music delivered by this band (despite me acknowledging their unique-ness and such), I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying this

Kudos to you. It's about time too

I'll need several more listens to have things more clear on this one, but it definitely maintains the quality of their latest releases.

This one was better than TGM in my opinion. "Melting City" is such a great song.

This one seems a lot more focused and things fit perfectly. I loved TGM and it was my favourite album so far, but that might change with this one. "Silent Flight Parliament" is my probably the song I like the most, but I'm sure that will change.

Everything but the growls stand out; they sound a bit hollow and weak...typical of a metalcore scream. Also at times the attempts at "brutality" can be overdone. Interesting album to say the least.

Wow this is some crazy technical shiznit even for BTBAM, 2 listens ain't enough for me to judge the album yet.
Did anyone else notice:
8:15 in Extremophile Elite (Parallax 2) = 9:12 in Specular Reflection (Parallax 1)
Cool throwback!

Yup, noticed. They also repeated some riffs and vocal lines throughout the whole album. Very Dream Theater-ish.

If you bought this album online or are listening to it online YOU ARE MISSING OUT! Part of the awesome experience for me is scanning through the insert booklet, seeing the awesome album art, and reading the lyrics. For those of you that don't know, the whole album (lyricaly) tells a story, of sorts, about a person - thier thoughts, dreams and realities - as they drift through space. Destination: Galactic Cerntral Point. Highly recommended.

Musically, they're still mindblowing with their complexity and song/album structure.

Anybody else notice how they're getting a lot heavier in the electrinics department? Compare an older album with the new and it's night and day. I'd hate to see a Muse here but I don't think it'll come to that, they make it work well.

They've said in interviews Tommy is getting more and more to do each album on the keyboards. Personally I think its a good thing as it adds even more depth to their music.

As far as I'm concerned BTBAM continues to cement thier musical genius here. They seem to be a way under-rated band. I think Ktulu in his review was spot on in saying that once a listener breaks through the enigmatic barrier he is rewarded each consecutive listen. And that goes for any album, imo.

The opening track showcases Tommy's ever-improving vocals. How can a man sound so brutal one minute and so sweet the next? I like how they're beginning to have songs and parts of songs where they let it be beautiful without overcomplicating it; track 1 is a great example of this. I kept waiting for a crazy rollercoaster part to come in and instead it just rang out sweetly - and then on into the awesome intro to Astral Body (great video for that song btw).

Of course one could easily pick apart each song and every instrument for a week straight and still be unpacking little gems of prowess, but suffice to say that they remain one of prog-metals most talented bands and this album only strengthens thier catalogue.

Every time I listen to this album I dislike it more. It's just so goddamn boring and so overproduced.

One thing that caught my ear was how hilarious the synth/jingle is at this part.
