American death tyrants Origin are here with their eagerly anticipated follow-up to 2008's beast of an album Antithesis. New vocalist Jason Keyser has joined the ranks, but stylistically the band have not deviated from their previous musical path. Entity is another unrelenting blunt-force trauma to the ears from start to finish, with all the technical and pulverising traits we have learnt to associate with the band.

I have it. It's quite a good album.. although I was never a massive Origin fan. I didn't even remember they had a new singer through most of my first listen through...

Wasn't it supposed to come out in June? Has it leaked already?

It hasn't leaked yet, I've got this from the label to review.

Maybe it's a little faster/more technical, but I've not listened to "Antithesis" for ages to say.

It leaked. There are 4 songs under 2 minutes. I was kinda disappointed with the short songs, but all the songs are pretty good. It's fast as hell and really technical, like usual.

I'd say it's my least favorite of theirs after a few listens - which doesn't mean it's bad.

Still. As much as I liked Antithesis (and was drawn to its technicality), this just seems a little Brain Drill-esque. I'd appreciate a little more structure in their songs as opposed to overwhelming technicality. We know they can play fast and hit insane notes, you don't need to continue proving it over the course of an entire album.

Anyway, it's good stuff. Nothing new, typical Origin, just a little less structured and even more focused on making sure you don't think you have a chance in hell at being the most technical guitarist or drummer you know of.

Great album! Even though Jason Keyser is now a member of the band, there is no mention of him on this release!
Credits were as follows:

Paul Ryan - Guitars and Vocals
Mike Flores - Bass and Vocals
John Lengstreth - Drums and Percussion

Anyways, just thought I'd clear up the fact that he didn't do the vocals for this album. Look forward to hearing him
in concert with them this month though!

This was the first album that I heard from this band..and ya, I'm impressed. It's brutal as hell and very head-bangable !!! Thankfully the songs do not get stale after repeat listens, which in Death Metal, is definitely a good thing !! The only issue I have with the album is the length of the songs. Most do not exceed the 2:30 mark, with only 3-4 songs reaching 4 mins plus. But that's just a small thing with what overall, is a pretty solid release from start to finish !! Definitely checking up their entire discography soon.

I thought Antithesis would be their hugest achievement, but I stand corrected. What a ridiculously great album.

This album made me realize that I prefer Origin's longer songs. Antithesis, the near-10 min track on their previous album, always stood out as one of its biggest highlights, and every long song on this album are my favorites. Generally, the short songs on Entity suck for me, especially Committed. Ugh. But the long ones, such as Saliga, are really fun to listen to.

People in this band are like machines...difficult playing techniques, however, the songs are not really that good.

So I suppose they listened to Nile and decided that's who they wanted to sound like for this album. xD

I would agree, but I thought 'Swarm' was great. The other shorter songs feel as if they were an afterthought, Committed is like a post-hardcore song, similar to Dillinger Escape Plan, not really my kind of thing unless done extremely well.

Indeed as most people have pointed out, this does tend to favour technicality above songwriting and it definitely shows. "Consequences of Solution" isn't all that bad though. The bonus track is actually the best track here
