Amon Amarth released their sixth full-length album "With Oden On Our Side" on September 22nd 2006. Whoever had been disappointed with their preceding full-length album "Fate Of Norns" must certainly have got over that disappointment after listening to this album because the band has once again moved closer to their older style of songwriting and their sound in this album is similar to that of their old releases like "Once Sent From The Golden Hall."

Yea, this is amazing powerful release. I did expect another decent album of course, but not as such great stuff as this one is. Still my favourite one out of their disco...

Amazing Album, but Twlight of the Thunder God was much better.

IMO With Oden On Our Side is the best Amon Amarth album. then Versus The World and then Twilight Of The Thunder God.

Although "Twilight Of the Thunder God" is more refined and extraordinally worked on, I too like "With Oden on Our Side" more. But it's definitely difficult to choose between the two.

I gave this album a rating of 10 because no matter what i hear, this still stands tall as the best balanced melodeath/Gothenburg i have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Consistent songwriting throughout, the album maintains a blistering pace and sweeps you along with it the whole way through. Relentless attack through the first 3 tracks gives way to a more relaxed refrain in Loke's Treachery Part I- for all of 56 seconds. This is an onslaught of a melodeath release that, while aggrandizing its scale in the final two songs of the album to round it out in a suitably 'epic' nature, always leaves you begging for more.

I'm not sure what it is about this album that is still capable of instilling man-tears as soon as the first riff of any track comes tearing along, but i am sure as hell that i'm still going to be 'banging to this come 2026 and beyond!

Been listening to this album for the past week and I'm very impressed. This is exceptional melodic death metal. I reckon the song "Under the Northern Star" is quite beautiful and could easily be sung with clean vocals and non-metal fans would love it.

I still have this at 10, although it's been a while since I listened to it but it had a huge impact on me in the past.

Simply the best Amon Amarth record, IMHO. It has a good balance between the heaviness and brutality on one side and the melodies on the other.
Favourite tracks: all of them. There is not a single weak song on this album, which is what separates it from the rest of the band's discography.

A very good if overrated album. Twilight of the Thunder God and Surtur Rising are both better IMO. This album also has their worst artwork.

8.4/10 for me - 'Valhall Awaits Me' is the standout track. 'Runes To My Memory' and 'Cry Of The Black Birds' are both also great.

A new era for the band, that lasted too long for their own good. This album was their peak commercially. The same soft approach that started with Versus the world, is present here but with better songwriting and production.

Not their best, but deserve to be in everyone's top 5.

Their best album imo, slightly better than Twilight Of The Thunder God. This album was unique in the fact that it never had the traditional Gothenburg sound like other Swedish dm bands had, it was a style of their own. It still had a brutal sound, although less brutal than most traditional dm sounds, and was much more accessible for a wider variety of listeners, with a far less technical and complex approach. So this style is ideal for newbies to dm, and a great gateway to extreme metal.

Obviously the lyrical theme is always important, the Viking theme is what makes Amon Amarth stand out, it's who they are. Whether you like the Viking theme or not, this album is highly enjoyable, it has great riff melodies, and really catchy choruses you can actually sing along too, and so many memorable songs, it's hard to pick a favourite. If I had to my picks would be "Runes To My Memory", "Cry Of The Black Birds", "Prediction Warfare" and the title track, the only song I found slightly weaker is "Asator".

Imho this is the absolute peak of Amon Amarth's career, everything they have done since has been good or ok, but has never reached this level of quality. The main problem I find now is they have been sticking with this sane formula since, and have become very predictable, not thst it's a bad thing, because most fans seem to be happy with that, and so do Amon Amarth

I come back to this album (and Twilight Of The Thunder God) once a year for my fix of melodic death metal. The genre as a whole can cease to exist as far as I'm concerned, with only these two albums being enough.
