Additional info
The artwork was created by Portuguese photographer Rui Luz and THY CATAFALQUE mastermind Tamás Kátai. "The album title means 'vast, trackless forest' in obsolete Hungarian language", Tamás explains. "It's a kind of summary of what the whole record is about. This word is a symbol, it means more than merely a forest".

It was recorded that he, one of history's finest war commanders, kept a journal chronicling the major events of his life. However, something mysteriously strange happened shortly after his death; the last page of his diary was torn out never to be found again?

The Prophecy

"We had previously captured Belgrade, Rhodes and nearly Rome; the moment of penetrating the virgin leas of Hungary through its Carpathian Mountains has never been more propitious. And so, I marched. With an army of sixty thousand men, I marched. Until the sun darkened dim, I marched. Until it finally peered on the far side of a boundless tassel-withered cornfield somewhere near Makó - a vast, trackless forest girdled by a wreath of darkness and swollen mist perching nigh the field wherein we stood like the roaming shadow of Óðr. We stood staggered, leering at the beguiling woodland that God had left untrodden; torn by senescence, dust and solitude for only demons to feast on. The masterpiece was complete when a Septentrional draught stirred amidst the five giant trees guarding its gates revealing in the process the message that was engraved on the trunk of the tallest; the prophecy:

What? Isn't "Beautiful" descriptive enough? OK, fine then, what about "avant-garde atmospheric metal with BM roots"? Yeah, that's what I thought. Beautiful is better.

And Hungarian does really sound poetic.

I have just started Az eső, az eső, az eső (almost done) and Kék ingem lobogó, but right now i'm off to work, I'll continue tomorrow morning.

Cheers!

All right, I'm doing Vashegyek, the rest will be shorter. I am just wondering how the hell I should translate a line like "benne morajjá mélyült a holt". It is too beautiful and poetic to translate but I will figure something out
Then we can translate the rest of Róka hasa rádió

EDIT: stupid me, didn't notice it was not a separate line and it is connected with the subsequent line. But it makes some sense without it as well

God... "Fekete mezők" is one of the best album starters ever. I realized I was listening to a masterpiece just after that song.

I'll give it a 9 with just 3 listens in. AND I WANT MOAR

Still, it is remarkable that such an underground album can be there on the top. Praises to metalstorm to discard overall popularity based on the number of votes, and taking into consideration the rating only.
Anyway, feeling like I need to do some translations for the album, it's been a while

I have finished the translation of all songs. Metalstorm have still not approved it, I suppose it is only a matter of time and your can all enjoy them - or not but you can read them anyway
I especially love the original lyrics of the last two songs, beautiful representations of evanescence and mortality through seasons like autumn and winter respectively - at least that is how I understand and interpret Tamás' words.

Great album. Never really listened to this band before, but now I'm definitely going through their discog. The album just pulls so many great aspects from a wide range of genres and still manage to add their own creative touch and make something that sounds really fresh. Stellar stuff.

I read the comments and see so many 9 and 10 ratings, with a few ocassional 8s. Makes me think some albums would have way higher ratings if it weren't for the fanboys rating down the stuff they dislike...

I say good on those who tank albums in that case. MS is plagued by high ratings as it is. I mean the average album is like 8.2. That's an A- on average.

I get what you are saying, but they are still not right, in my opinion. It's up to you to adjust (not your rating scale however) to fit with what is at this site.

People who tank albums have no excuse what-so-ever, it's plain and simple vote tampering by a selfish immature prick. I've been following the ratings of this album since release, and very early on, when it first got enough votes to be listed in the top 10, and was in #1 spot - one guy gave it a 1 dropping it to about 5th. That is fucking selfish - not only where this site is concerned, but for a very small band like Thy Catafalque, with their first album on a major metal label, shit like voting 1's to deliberately tank the album could potentially lose sales. Imagine if more than that one guy did it, it could drop the album out of the top 10 altogether, which clearly is not right. What makes that guy so special that he is above everyone else, and allowed to vote a 1 with the intention to basically vote all other albums (including the one they like) higher. That is fucked - no two ways about it, especially when, clearly, that person has not even heard this album. Like I said, very selfish and immature.

For my own rating scale, I obviously gave this 9, but it is my #1 album of the year. Their previous album was better in my opinion, and one of my top 10 favourite albums all-time, so I am comfortable in giving that a rare 10 also.

Oh shit. I can't believe what I just heard, Fekete Mezok is damn brilliant
Still have to listen to the other songs to rate the album, but if the its average quality is like the one in that song, I'll definitely give it a 9... Seriously, it's like... WHOA... o.o

Yeah, that song is pretty boring if you ask me. Very misleading though, cus the rest of the album is baaaalllleeerrrrr. Vashegyek is a wicked jam fosho. >:[

Oh, and the first part of the solo in Kék ingem lobogó sounds like they got Robert Smith to lay out some sick melodies for it... Which is odd, because nothing else in the song reminds me of The Cure.

Pretty nice album, but I wouldn't call it avant-garde at all. What kept me from adding this album to the list of my favourite albums of 2011 is its repetitiveness.

Well, that's just your personal opinion. There is no need to put down other bands' efforts, if you don't get into their music.
