If you're into the last Opeth album, you'll feel very at home with this one. As for reviewing, I don't know yet.

I.

Anekdoten's a band I have heard of but have never checked out. What's the best album for initiation?

Wow! Anekdoten on Metal Storm! A very welcome addition! I liked the new album, and Ivor is right, it is quite similar to the latest Opeth: the first song has a part which is almost exactly like Moon Above, Sun Below + Devil's Orchard of Heritage (if I am not mistaken). In any case, this is a good slab of proggy Nordic melancholia, both heavy and light.

^ Anekdoten sounding like Opeth? It's more like the other way around in my humble opinion. Anekdoten have been sounding like this since early 90s.

Listening to this as I speak. This is pretty dam good. Not as "folky" as I remember them being. Will try to digest this all during the rest of the week.

The vocals are out of tune far too often and don't really complement the music. I thought I would enjoy this much more after hearing a few riffs from the first track that were pretty much ripped from Heritage

I really like this album, I had no idea it was on this site. None of their other albums have really clicked with me, unfortunately. I'll keep trying.

Meanwhile, this one reminds me a lot of 2010s Opeth (yeah yeah, John Doe, it's the other way around, don't care) which I only recently started appreciating more. I think I heard or read Mikael say that both bands know each other. These guys were also involved in Morte Macabre, which released a great instrumental album that's not dissimilar sounding.
