This sounds like a pretty average black metal album with some keyboards.

Sadly that's all this is. It'll still get lots of attention from publications because it's Ash Borer and Yellow Eyes members.

This is one of the most boring albums I've sat through in quite some time. These guys are masters of uninspired black metal.

Maybe 7 in a vacuum, but even this year alone has enough quality, interesting and creative black metal releases to push it way under 7.

This thing just drags on and on and seems to never end. The performance is classy, but what good is that with the music itself being so dull.

The music itself could be average and uninspired, but HOLY S*IT THAT COVER

Glad I read these comments, I've been thinking the same thing for ages and was always confused when seeing all the praising going on in social media. I did like there bardo mythology interview though.
