Trap Them - Darker Handcraft

Hardcore/Grindcore/Crust Punk
Jul 29, 2011
Here's something totally awesome for you. MOAR GRIME.

Seriously, this frantic hardcore/grindcore crust-punk album is a shit-stomping fantasy. Includes bonus Entombed-like production values!

Makes an ideal soundtrack for any or all of the following:
A) Thrashing the fuck out.
B) Breaking things.
C) Ruining people's shit.
D) Being an all-around beast.

Take Over And Destroy - Rotten Tide

Blackened Sludge
May 30, 2011
Raw? Check.
Ugly? Check.
Crack-brained? Check.
Grim? Check.
Aggressive? Check.

No, it's not your great aunt Geraldine we're talking about here. It's TOAD. They make some horrifically grimy extreme music. There's really no logical reason to not be listening to this right now.

Full of groove, and grimy as all hell. It's everything sludge needs to be. I could easily rant about what a punch this album delivers, but it's definitely something that you need to hear for yourself.

...I'm going to go take a shower now.

Heavenwood - Abyss Masterpiece

Gothic Death type thing
Apr 04, 2011
Great riffs, great melodies, epic synths, and plenty of variety out the wazzoo. An incredibly deep sounding album no matter how you slice it. A must-hear for anyone who is looking for some top-notch 2011 releases.

Fun for the whole family.

This easily hits the top of my list of "shit-I-should-have-checked-out-in-2010-but-didn't". I probably just ignored these guys based on the fact I saw their name on bills along with the likes of Billy Talent & Alexisonfire. Big mistake. I'm not even sure what this outrageously heavy hardcore act is doing wasting time with those mooks. This is great hardcore fused with a healthy dose of sludge & southern rock.

Definitely a grower of an album. Jagged aggression and spine crushing grooves makes The Moulting one hell of an engrossing listen. Memorable enough to be...well, memorable, yet enough forgettable parts to make each listen a new experience with fun stuff/cool riffs you didn't notice before.

Trippy, punky, thrashy, proggy, psychedelic and whatever the fuck else you want to call it. This is bordering experimental without being pretentious. Just a fun album all around. A definite recommendation for anyone interested in thrash, punk, or any form of hard music that challenges the norm.

Heaven And Hell - The Devil You Know

For Ronnie James Dio...
May 17, 2010
Released almost exactly a year before his passing, The Devil You Know is a great way to end the legacy of a great man. One of Dio's most haunting and powerful performances of his life combined with that of fellow metal legends Iommi & Butler.

Deceased or not, one hell of a metal classic.

Led To The Grave - Led To The Grave

Black/Thrash/Crossover/Hardcore
Apr 23, 2010
There's a certain personal subgenre (or more like classification) I like to refer to as "Metal For Punk Rockers". Sitting in this little corner I've created is bands like Toxic Holocaust, Municipal Waste, new Darkthrone and old Motorhead. Crusty, aggressive, no frills or gimmicks with a real punky D.I.Y. feel to it. Top it off with a little Slayer influence and what you've got is a little less conversation, a little more action.

Armour - Armour

Pure Heavy Metal
Mar 13, 2010
Balls-to-the-wall, no bullshit heavy metal, straight to the point with no gimmicks. Powerful riffs, cheesy lyrics, and great chorus'. A healthy dose of everything that makes heavy metal so freakin' great, with all the fat cut away. The beauty is the fact this is only a debut! Oh what glorious heavy metal works of art will this band put forth in the future? This is far too promising.
