Germany, Wacken - Wacken Open Air 2008

Meh I better go to Wacken within the next 10 years before it turns into crap, honestly it looks like its losing its quality, tho there are many great bands this year, there is also lots of crap

Axel Rudi Pell cancelled his appearance.

Really? I heard some rumours about 3 Inches of Blood. I heard they cancelled their appearance as well. I'm not sure if that's true.

I've heard those rumours as well, but Wacken is still on their Myspace schedule and the festival page has them still listed in its lineup.

My top three favorite bands?!

WTF?!

Am I the only one who thinks the line up is pretty much crap?
and what the hell are bands like Hatebreed, Girugamesh and Avenged Sevenfold doing there?

bad variety unfortunally. how many metalheads enjoy those bands? and is a j-rock fan crazy enough to pay 90 euro's to just see Girugamesh?

Last year they had Dir En Grey and the year before Mucc. I wouldn't be surprised if actually one of the organizers was into j-rock. But to answer your question - j-rock fans are crazy per se and definitely crazy enough to pay 100 bucks to see their favorite band on European soil.

And who said it's the metalheads they want to please with A7X and AILD? :

A lot of metalheads enjoy Hatebreed's hardcore.

Btw, Stone Gods (ex-The Darkness) are the replacement of Axel Rudi Pell...

so where are they on the running order?
I look forward to seeing them - I will probably miss them at Download and I am interested to see them!

Iron Maiden are the only band on the true metal stage on the first day??? That's stupid...
Although almost tempting to just go and camp in front of the barrier to get a front row place for them. Hahahaha..

I think it's a genius move. Unlike at all their other concerts it means that you can get there early for a good spot and won't have to stand through Lauren Harris and A7X. I in the meantime will be enjoying Negura Bunget though

Haha, I would rather be watching Lauren Harris and Avenged Sevenfold than an empty stage though..

I will be there on Wednesday, so there won't be much to do on my first day. Sweet Savage and Metakilla will be playing that night, so I might check those bands out.

Massacre might not make it to Wacken after all.

Wacken is the best metla festival in whole world ..Next year I'm going there I hope...I must visit it at least one time in my life...I think that what is for muslim a way to Mecca,that is for metalheads Wacken:banger2:..Do you agree??:P....btw sorry for my not that good english..

I wonder why Exodus have such an early slot.. they are maybe the band I want to see most just behind Iron Maiden.
Haha, I will be straight into the arena that day and camp in front of that stage for a short while to get a nice place for them!!

Exodus really is a must-see for me as well. I will be seeing them live a few days before Wacken, but it isn't a punishment to see them twice in a week.

Moonspell was there last year already.

i just realised.........
i really question, why are some of these bands in the 'true metal' stage?
and Leaves' Eyes on the 'party stage'?

I think the problem with Wacken is there is always a band on someone wants to see somewhere, so we'll never all be in one place at one time. Hahaha.

Still, the time has come and I will be setting off tomorrow!
Hopefully this will be another great festival!

Well, I did manage to meet Baz Anderson (of course), GT and SomethingOfFire. Great guys altogether. And thanks a lot to the latter two once more for saving my Friday night!

Personal highlights for me: Avantasia were unexpectedly awesome, Jeff Walker welcoming the crowd with a "Welcome Hellfest!" and the Carcass moshpit was the gayest I've ever seen - in every sense of the word. Props to the dude in the black Cynic shirt!

Hahahaha, yes - Avantasia were amazing!!!
Iron Maiden too and Axxis were just simply amazing in the festival environment too. Exodus and The Rotted also highlights.
All in all another huge success! Full report coming soon!

As you probably already saw I met Promo and well I shared camp with my good friend SomethingOfFire.

Highlights for me was Avantasia, Leaves' Eyes and Sabaton. The Exodus show was pretty good as well along with Van Canto who surprised me the good way
