Death Angel - New Album Due Later This Year

Hot on the heels of a busy and productive 2009, Bay Area thrash legends Death Angel have been holed up in their Oakland, California studio for the past few months writing songs for their next Nuclear Blast release, tentatively scheduled to drop in September. The band heads into Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, Florida in March, with production genius Jason Suecof on the board, to start tracking the new record. Suecof is on the cutting edge of the current metal world having produced albums for the likes of Trivium, August Burns Red, The Black Dahlia Murder, All That Remains, White Chapel, Devildriver and many more.

Rob Cavestany, lead guitarist of Death Angel had this to say about plans for the new album: "Jason is one of my favorite producers churning out some of the sickest slabs of metal out there today. I am so stoked to have the chance to co-produce our next record with him. It's gonna be vicious! The band is on fire right now in the thick of pre-production and the new songs are crushing! We can't wait to start tracking!"

When asked about the hiring of Suecof, Death Angel vocalist, Mark Osegueda, added: "We are so excited about the opportunity to work with Jason on the upcoming album. The new material is the most aggressive and technical music we have written in years. So, we needed a producer that was capable of unleashing the tones that match and compliment the over-all vibe of the songs. With Jason's experience in producing some of the most brutal contemporary metal artists and albums of today I know we made the right choice! I think the collaboration between the two of us will prove to be venomous and infectious! It will be Death Angel's first album ever recorded outside of our home state of California. We will be heading out to Jason's very own Audio Hammer studios for total immersion into what, I can guarantee, will be the heaviest Death Angel album to date!"

The band plans to post regular updates following their progress in the studio on their MySpace page and on their brand new website, so keep an eye out for that.

After Death - Two Members Drown In Brazil

Two members of the UK metalcore outfit After Death drowned yesterday (Thursday January 21) while swimming at the Atalaia beach in Aracaju, in the northeastern part of Brazil. 21-year-old guitarist Leon Villalba and 18-year-old bassist Timothy Kennelly, along with their bandmates, were in the middle of an extensive tour of Brazil as the support act for Master when the incident occurred.

Villalba and Kennelly were reportedly swimming at the beach around 2:30 pm when another beachgoer noticed a floating body and alerted the local lifeguard rescue team. An attempt was made to resuscitate Villalba using CPR, but he didn't respond. Kennedy's body is still missing. The search for Timothy's remains will continue on Friday with air support, since the area to be covered is very wide.

Atalaia is considered to be the fourth most dangerous beach in Brazil, even though it's one of the most popular in Aracaju, the capital of Sergipe, which is the smallest Brazilian state by area.

Drummer Barry O'Connor told the BBC News all two other bands on the tour would continue to play but he and his other two bandmembers would be heading home to Britain. He also revealed more details concerning the incident. Read all about it here.

After Death is a five-piece metalcore band from London. According to their MySpace, their music influences are combinations of bands such as Killswitch Engage, In Flames, As I Lay Dying as well as UK bands such as Architects and Bring Me The Horizon.

After 7 years, roughly 200 different bands representing 18 countries, and several venue changes, the Maryland Deathfest has developed into the premier metal festival in the United States, and one of the most talked about festivals internationally.

The concept of Maryland Deathfest is simple: to bring to the United States the best and most extreme bands the underground has to offer. Never conforming to trends, or being limited by genre restrictions, Maryland Deathfest is a showcase of what extreme music, both new and old, is capable of. With an emphasis on diversity, the festival brings together the very best death metal, grindcore, thrash, hardcore, black metal, and experimental bands from all around the world. With bands from all over the U.S. and Canada, and exclusive fly ins and rare appearances from some of the most in demand bands from Europe, Australia, and Japan, the diversity of the lineup is only surpassed by the diversity of MDF's rabid fan base, who annually travel from all over the world for a weekend of fun and music.

Since Maryland Deathfest's inception in 2003, festival organizers Ryan and Evan have continued to strive to bring together some of the most legendary bands in the scene and some of the most talked about up-and-coming bands in the underground for an unparalleled experience. Combining the DIY attitude of two young metal fans who are actually part of the scene instead of trying to exploit it, with a refreshing professional touch, Maryland Deathfest is year after year given high marks for being one of the best run and most organized festivals around.

Austrian Death Machine - New Video Online

"I Need Your Clothes, Your Boots, And Your Motorcycle", the new video from Austrian Death Machine, has been made available online. The video was directed by Dave Brodsky.

Tim Lambesis comments on the video: "Arnold is proof that you can be brutal and still have fun. Metalheads can still laugh at a party right? The theme for this video can go a few different ways. I think that no matter what drastic measures Ahhnold takes, he somehow only creates more fun for all. Other people may think there is an underlying story as a Terminator love story between Ahhnold and T-One-Million. However you interpret the video is fine with me, but if you sing along loud enough Ahhnold just might show up at your house too!"

"I Need Your Clothes, Your Boots, And Your Motorcycle" comes off Austrian Death Machine's latest album, Double Brutal, which was released in September this year via Metal Blade Records.

Evile - Tragic Death Of Mike Alexander

Sadly, just a few days into their European tour with Amon Amarth, Evile's Mike Alexander was suddenly taken ill and rushed to hospital, but tragically passed away in Lulea, Sweden.

Evile members Matt Drake, Ol Drake and Ben Carter have released the following statement:

"This is so hard to find the words to express fully how we feel. We can't believe or accept what's happened. One minute we're talking to our buddy, Mike, the next minute we can never speak to him again.

There's so many things rushing through our heads that we want to say, do and feel. We half expect him to come round the corner and call us 'dickheads'. We can't get our heads around it.

It upsets us so much that he was away from his family when this happened, although knowing Mike, we're at least glad he was on tour doing what he loves.

We're lost for words. We all miss him so much already. He was such a headstrong, genuinely nice guy who loved music and his family. We've got so many brilliant memories with him.

Our hearts go out to his daughter, family and friends at this tragic, difficult time.

Mike is much loved and is sorely missed.

Rest in peace, brother."

Lightning Swords Of Death - Ink Deal With Metal Blade Records

Metal Blade Records is proud to announce inking a deal with LA underground black metal act, Lightning Swords Of Death. The band is seven years of the making and has been praised by the likes of Decibel, SOD Magazine, PIT Magazine and Metal Maniacs for their unrelenting and irrefutably vicious sound. Those who were privy to the band's 2007 release, "The Golden Plague", are already aware of the band's prowess. Their second release took the form of a split CD with comrades Valdur, which was only available for a limited time at performances during the country wide 2008 Blodhevn tour. Metal Maniacs called LSOD's part a "heavy, bestial and brutal assault bringing to mind a young and hungry Thornspawn." The split continues to infect all who experience its unyielding expression of true chaos, but it's only a precursor of the grand and terrible horror that is looming in the future like a headsman's shadow...

Vocalist Autarch divulges: "Metal Blade has made a pact with the Devil. His knights, Lightning Swords of Death shall go forth to wreak torment upon man and all his works for conquer and the glory of Hell on Earth. We rejoice in this union, together we shall stack the souls of the weak and fill our chalice with the blood of martyrs."

Keep an eye out for the new album coming in 2010.
