The Soulless - Have Entered The Studio Today

British melodic death metallers The Soulless, who recently changed their name from Ignominous Incarceration, are going into the studio today, December 15th, to begin recording their new album. The Soulless are heading into Outhouse Studios in Reading, England with producer John Mitchell (Architects, Funeral For A Friend, Enter A Shikari) and will be recording until midway through January, 2011.

The as-yet untitled new album is due to be released on Earache Records in April, 2011.

The Soulless frontman Andy Wardle comments: "We are all beyond excited to start this process. The last few weeks we have been relentlessly rehearsing the tracks and are very happy with our creation. We know it is going to sound even better when finished at Outhouse. Everything will be heavily documented and regular video updates will be up after each stage of recording. Lazarus A.D. - New Song Available For Streaming

Midwest thrashers Lazarus A.D. have released their first single, "The Ultimate Sacrifice". You can check it out over at this location.

The band's highly anticipated album, Black Rivers Flow, was recorded in July and August 2010 at Belle City Sound with Chris Djuricic and was mixed and mastered by James Murphy at Safehouse Production. More album details were previously reported here.

Bassist and lead vocalist Jeff Paulick comments; "First off, I have to say we are incredibly proud of Black Rivers Flow. It's been three and a half years since we recorded our last album and we've grown a lot since then. During the writing process for Black Rivers Flow we were dealing with great personal tragedies. We found a way to draw strength from those tragedies and use it as inspiration to write what we feel is an incredibly more sound record than the last.

On Black Rivers Flow, everyone stepped up their game; the riffs are heavier, the choruses catchier, and the vocals have improved and been diversified tenfold. We are on a mission to show the world that we are a force to be reckoned with and aren't thinking about a trend, we're thinking long term. I think our fans will hear these songs and be blown away. The energy and power this time around is undeniable, and we hope the reaction amongst the community reflects just that."

Lazarus A.D. will also be in action as they tour the states as a part of the North American Retribution Tour alongside thrash metal legends Death Angel. Joining the tour will be Early Man, Bonded by Blood, and Hexen. Those dates can be found here.

Iced Earth - Festivals Of The Wicked DVD Release

Can Iced Earth fans handle nearly six hours of their favorite metal band? They'll soon find out.

An intense two-minute trailer from the long-awaited live DVD extravaganza Festivals of the Wicked has just been posted to the Iced Earth website. Go check it out!

Festivals of the Wicked boasts nearly six hours of Iced Earth - three full headliner shows (over 40 live tracks!), a photo gallery shot by famed rock photographer Ross Halfin, plus a 90-minute documentary. The DVD will be released early in 2011.

"The last part of the DVD to be completed is the documentary," said Iced Earth main man Jon Schaffer. "Thousands of hours were shot and edited down to 90 minutes. It's very close to done. I have to say the footage of the band on stage is mind blowing. Those who have already seen us will love it. Those who haven't yet seen Iced Earth will be amazed by what this band can do on stage."

Drummer Brent Smedley concurs: "The three festivals featured on the DVD were all extremely remarkable and each one memorable in its own way," he said. "All three were amazing nights where the Metal and the Magic were fully flowing. I think the release of this DVD truly proves my mantra and favorite saying: METAL LIVES!"

Indeed it does.

Festivals of the Wicked shows Iced Earth in its favorite element - facing tens of thousands of screaming fans - and playing songs that demonstrate why Iced Earth fans are some of the most loyal in metal. The three soon-to-be-released festivals are:

Wacken Open Air (2007) with Tim Owens on lead vocals. The blistering 13-song set begins with a jaw-dropping rendition of "Burning Times" and closes with the band's signature track, "Iced Earth."

Rock Hard Festival (2008) with Matt Barlow on lead vocals. This festival, the first to feature Matt's return, storms through 15 songs, with "Dark Saga" leading the charge.

Metal Camp (2008) with Matt Barlow on lead vocals. A not-to-be-missed 16-song face melter of a concert that proves why some say Iced Earth is one of the top live bands in the world.

"I'm very proud of this DVD, and I'm grateful to fans for their patience," said Schaffer. "Getting this ready for release has been an enormous job, but a true labor of love. It will be worth the wait. I promise."

Iced Earth was recently confirmed to appear at Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel, Belgium, on June 24th, 2011. Additional festival dates will be announced soon! Stay tuned for updates.

But unfortunately there is also some bad news for you: our guitarist Daniel Droste has recently left the band due to the fact that he wanted to concentrate on his band Ahab. We want to thank Daniel from the bottom of our heart for all the awesome and funny moments together with him in the rehearsal room, studio, tour bus and of course on stage and wish him all the best for the future, both regarding his musical career and private life.

Ex Deo - Sign With Napalm Records

Napalm Records is very proud to announce that Ex Deo has joined its ranks.

The band revolving around Kataklysm frontman Maurizio Iacono recently returned from a highly successful North American tour, presenting metal fans with the mighty force of the Roman legion. Ex Deo, whose first full length Romulus was praised by fans and critics alike, signed a worldwide recording deal with the Austrian label. The band's second offering Caligula is tentatively scheduled for a 2011 release and is bound to shake the metal scene to its core. Nothing can withstand the power of Rome!

Maurizio Iacono: "Today I'm excited to say that we have found a new home for the Roman legion of Ex Deo! We have parted ways amicably with our long time friends at Nuclear Blast for the second album of Ex Deo, we needed to separate even more the two bands of Kataklysm and Ex Deo and we now have a new vision of soldiers behind Ex Deo and we have found this after a few months of talking to different labels with Napalm Records out of Austria, I've been dealing with them with a band I work with called Alestorm and they have done a fantastic and professional job... we look forward to releasing the anticipated second album Caligula with this new powerhouse and unleashing next year one of the most defiant albums metal has seen in ages... Roma Invicta!"

Avantasia - DVD To Be Released In February

As posted on the Avantasia website:

Rumors keep circulating about a forthcoming Avantasia Live-DVD and now we can confirm they are true! Early next year a double-DVD and 2-CD set will be out on Nuclear Blast Records (in Japan and East-Asia on Avalon-Marquee). The DVD is a documentary of the legendary 2008 world tour of Avantasia, when the band hit the road for the first time to write a new chapter in Metal history; traveling around the world with a giant all-star ensemble to bring The Metal Opera on stage and play on three continents within a few days, crossing the dateline and eventually playing to a total of 400,000 people within only a few weeks.

The first DVD contains a live concert with a running time of almost two hours featuring footage filmed at the headlining shows of Wacken Open Air (Germany) and Masters Of Rock (Czech Republic). On the second DVD there will be a movie "Around the world in 20 days" that gives fans the opportunity to join Avantasia backstage and take a look at the surroundings and the thrill behind the scenes that go along with an extensive undertaking such as this. The DVD-set will portray Avantasia 2008 when it all started.

Tobias comments: "I am so proud of this DVD package and the featured footage, even though it took a little longer to finally complete it. It gives people an idea of what an impact the first appearance of Avantasia on stage had, and you will get an idea of how everything went beyond our expectations and what the roots and the seeds for the current Avantasia tour are. It portrays one year in Avantasia's history, maybe the most important year in the project's history because that is when a studio-project became a traveling institution. There are many Metal Operas, but we made it something real, something to take hold of. Something alive..."

The finishing touches are being put on the mastering right now, so the DVD will be out in February. It will be available as a double 2-DVD, a double live CD, and a boxset featuring both. Stay tuned for more information.
