Pyramaze - Matt Barlow Will Not Continue With The Band

The following statement from Matt Barlow was posted on Pyramaze's website regarding his future status with the band:

Brothers and Sisters,

In light of recent events, it is rather apparent that I need to address what's going on in my life as it pertains to Pyramaze and Iced Earth. As I'm sure you're aware, last week, my wife gave birth to our second son. We are all doing well, but it has taken a little time to get my thoughts together following that and the announcement of my return to Iced Earth. After Michael's statement, it became very clear to me that I must come to terms with the fact that I can not be in all places at all times. Obviously, there are some of you who had the same concerns. It just took me a little longer to figure that out. Well, the point is, I contacted Michael and let him know that I very much wanted to perform on the record, but that I would not be able to continue on with the band in a full time position as planned. I pointed out to Michael that I was extremely grateful to him and the rest of the guys for bringing me on board and I felt obligated to be up front with him on this. I did not want to do the record and then back out, leaving things on bad terms. Understandably, Michael was disappointed but ultimately understanding of the situation. Pyramaze is an extremely talented group of musicians, who's work is well known in the progressive metal community and will be in high demand in a short time. I am happy to say that I will be working with them, if only in a limited term. The music that Michael has written is going to make for a kick ass heavy metal record (KAHMR) and I give you my word that I will give everything that I've got to insure that. Thanks for your time...you'll hear from us soon!

Matt Barlow

Guitarist Michael Kammeyer has also posted his, and the band's, statement on the website:

Hello friends,

As you can all read in Matt's statement, the term of our cooperation has changed due to the fact that he's back in Iced Earth. When Matt approached me with his thoughts and decisions, we had the choice of A. Letting Matt go and finding another singer right away, or B. record this album as planned and with the singer for whom the music was written. Matt let us know that he was still very hooked on recording this album with us, but that he would understand and respect our final decision, should we wish to terminate our cooperation right away. After discussing this with my band brothers we came to the conclusion that we've started the journey of recording our new album together with Matt, and we will finish this album together with him. After we have completed this new album Matt is going to be concentrating solely on Iced Earth again. So this will be a onetime cooperation between Pyramaze and Matt, and this album will be one for the books. We all understand and respect Matt's decision, and there's no bad blood here at all. Matt is a genuinely nice guy with a honest heart, and we are proud to be working with him. I will also encourage you to read Matt's other statement at www.icedearth.com to give you some more insight in the situation. I guess now is a good time to reveal the cover for our new album which is called Immortal. Let me also take this opportunity to wish you all a merry Christmas and a rocking new year. We thank you all for your support.

Wintersun - Upcoming Album Frustrations

Kai Hahto, drummer of Wintersun, has posted the following album update on their message board:

"Hey Everybody,

I'm making a little statement where we are at the moment. We're having a lot of problems with our computer at the moment. This resuslts in much frustration and also kills the inspiritation, because we cannot work as we want to and for example one wrong note can cause a whole days work. So the situation is now this. We are finished with everything else except the vocals and synths. We are talking about more orchestral stuff with layers on top of each other, and some songs have some cool choirs!

People, please understand that the scale for this album is much bigger than the first one. I love the first one too, but you can't compare these two at all.

One thing you should also know: When the album is ready mixed and mastered Nuclear Blast will need 3 months to promote it before it's out. It's a huge company and it has it's own ways of working. But let's think this way, we die someday but the music lives on after we have left. And that is just what music should be. Jari has the vision as only he knows and he can't give up until the album is ready but he wants to make sure that he is happy with it before leaving it to you... to listen. Thank you for the patience and we'll keep you informed!"

The full statement can be read here.

In other news, the bands drummer Bone W Machine made the following announcement concerning the band's European support tour for Korn: "I am sad to announce that I will not partake in the upcoming European tour with Korn. Personal reasons are the main issue in this case and this is more important to me right now then a tour. I hope you all understand this and dont throw a EMO fit. The drums will not suffer though since the extremly competent Snowy Shaw will be whipping skins and breaking sticks in my abcense. And no, I am not leaving the band."

Mercenary - New Album Update

Official statement regarding the upcoming album:

"Danish masters of melodic and progressive metal Mercenary have wrapped up the recordings for their highly anticipated follow-up to 2006's "The Hours That Remain" (which was subsequently awarded the Danish Metal Award in the category "Album Of The Year").

Commented guitarist Jakob Molberg: "So, the new Mercenary album has finally been completed, mixed and mastered! It was a really laborious birth after several intense months of constant writing and rehearsing while playing sweaty gigs nearly every weekend in between (Note to self: Let's never do that again.). As we went straight into the studio with our masterly producer Jacob Hansen right after the last gig, we couldn't help but to bring along a lot of the immediacy and groove that we love when playing live. The result is in many ways our most spontaneous album ever, but I also believe it's our strongest yet ? it's very melodic, catchy, dark and complex (just like any decent metalhead would ? or should ? want his metal to be.). With bassplayer / shouter Rene Pedersen recording his first album with us, this album marks the return of some really aggressive vocals ? mixed, of course, with Mikkel's soaring clean singing. It's an album that's straight to the point I think, and I can't help but feel we're at the top of our game here. I never had a stronger belief in the potential of this band before."

Mercenary's new album, entitled "Architect Of Lies", will be released late March via Century Media Records.

Upcoming Mercenary shows:

Jan. 26 - (D) Nordhausen - Bloody Sunset Festival
Feb. 07 - (DK) Aalborg - Eskildsen musik
Mar. 21 - (DK) Aalborg - Studenterhuset
Mar. 22 - (DK) Århus - Voxhall
Mar. 23 - (DK) Copenhagen - The Rock
Jul. 3-9 - (SLO) Metalcamp Festval

Mercenary's "My World Is Ending" clip can be viewed here. The track comes off "The Hours That Remain", which came out last year via Century Media.

"The Hours That Remain" entered the national album chart in Denmark at position No. 67. The follow-up to 2004's "11 Dreams" was produced by Jacob Hansen (Raunchy, Communic, Maroon, Hatesphere) and features artwork by Travis Smith (Death, Katatonia, Opeth. Guest musicians on the CD include Soilwork's Björn "Speed" Strid and Heaven Shall Burn's Marcus Bischoff."

Crawl Underground - Black Metal MP3 Download

As teasers prior to the releases of chapters 2 and 3 of Season of Mist's Underground Activists division, namely Pest's "Rest In Morbid Darkness" and Hegemon's "Contemptus Mundi", Seasons Of Mist are giving you the opportunity to download one MP3 from each release.

Pest were created with the sole goal to deliver pure Black Metal in the old vein, no females or keyboards involved. As 2007 marks the end of the first decade of Pest with two full length albums and several EP's, "Rest In Morbid Darkness" consists of nine hymns bleeding from infernal energies, violent sickness, lurking horror and triumphant bloodshed, all in the spirit of blackened demo metal. The music is spawned in the darkest of depths from the inhuman mind. Deceitful, deranged and depraved music from the true tyrants of Swedish Black Metal.

Download the "Bestial Crucifixion" song here.

Pest
Upcoming release: "Rest In Morbid Darkness"
Release date: Jan. 21st, US Feb. 5th 2008

French Black Metal act Hegemon have always followed their own path without caring for anybody or anything. The unknown line up, which is still the same since the early days, the violence and the anger of the music and the dedication of the band to its art, have helped Hegemon to be one of the most revered Black Metal hordes in the deep underground. The Hegemon entity now unleash its wrath and skilled traditional black metal on earth through "Contemptus Mundi", an album in which once again all energy and spirit have been put into, mocking the image, the so called rules of black metal and everything else that has nothing to do with music!
