Gnostic - Recording Debut Album In September

Gnostic, the Atlanta, Georgia-based band featuring original Atheist drummer Steve Flynn alongside Chris Baker and Sonny Carson (who handled the guitar duties on the Atheist reunion tour this past year), will record its debut CD at Ledbelly Studios in Atlanta September 22-29. The group, which is rounded out by Stephen Morley on bass, and Kevin Freeman on vocals, has enlisted Atheist/Neurotica frontman Kelly Shaefer to co-produce as well as make an appearance on the album. Starrfactory Entertainment (Shaefer's company) will begin evaluating offers from labels interested in releasing the as-yet-untitled record in various territories around the world.

According to a press release, Gnostic comes with a ferociously technical sound that is inspired by the same school of technicality that Atheist fans expect, "but Gnostic is an angrier animal for sure," says Shaefer. "I think people will be utterly blown away by the technical metal gem these guys have written. Kevin Freeman offers up a far more guttural approach then me, so it will be blazing with difficulty, but relentless in sheer brutality."

Shaefer adds, "While touring this past year with Atheist, we were able to set the stage for Gnostic to pick up where Atheist left off, and take it a bit further with their own unique style. This is going to set technical metal fans on their collective asses when they hear it; the drumming alone is so insane. I think, much like with Atheist, it will have even the most accomplished metal heads scratching their heads with amazement!" Shaefer also warns labels not to sleep on this like they did with Atheist back in the day. "This WILL be a landmark release without a doubt!" he said.

Gnostic's 2006 "Isolate Gravity" demo can be heard at this location.

Mithras - Guitarist Launches Galactic Records

Official Press Release, taken from Galactic Records MySpace Page:

"Founded by Mithras mastermind Leon Macey, Galactic Records launched in late 2006 and brought with it two debut releases from two very different artists: the UK's fastest-rising death metal contenders, Sarpanitum, and Welsh/Swedish atmospheric instrumental hybrid Sepia Dreamer.

"Sarpanitum are an anomaly in the UK death metal scene. Their debut for us, 'Despoilment Of Origin,' is a sophisticated and brutal release, and for such a young band, it's damn impressive!" says Leon of his first signing. "I was a big fan of Sepia Dreamer's first recording, 'Portraits Of Forgotten Memories,' and always believed that with a label brave enough to take the risk with a totally instrumental album they would go down really well with an extreme audience. 'The Sublime' isn't a shoe-gazing affair, but the emotional edge it displays should appeal to many as a welcome break from the barrage of blastbeats most extreme music fans have become accustomed to."

Leon also helped Sepia Dreamer realize "The Sublime" in a recorded format by lending his drumming skills on the album - which manifests itself in a very different style to that which he is used to with his own band Mithras. "It was a real challenge with just four hours available to lay down an album's worth of drumming for a style miles from my comfort zone, but I think it lends itself well to the music," he comments.

Both releases are distributed worldwide via the UK's largest independent music distributor, Plastic Head. Music from both bands can be heard here."

Ephel Duath - Begin Work On New Album

Official Earache Records press release:

"Italian experimental jazz metallers Ephel Duath have begun work on a new album due to be released in 2008. The album, entitled "Through My Dog's Eyes" is set to be a concept album in which a dog depicts his vision of various aspects of life, from casual things like nightmares or walks to deeper issues such as accepting death and the rules of nature that are unavoidable. The band are currently gathered together, writing and arranging the songs, and guitarist Davide had this to say about the album:

'The preproduction is very promising, and we'll abuse it to grasp and magnify the potential of each track: we are sure that the album will not only please the fans but that it will also bring us new ones'.

Talking about the concept behind "Through My Dog's Eyes", Davide has also stated that:

'Lyrics-wise, it is a first person narrative in the shape of various short novels. We are in no way attempting to prove any sort of superiority or draw a parallel between man and animal. All we intend to do is capture the essence of how we think dogs see life, hence the use of the first person, and all of this being speculation means that the texts deal with sheer fantasy. We'll push people to think about this concept as an ode to one of the animals with the most humanity in the eyes'.

'Through My Dog's Eyes' will follow the release of the upcoming remix album entitled "Pain Remixes The Known" which is set to be released on July 23rd. To hear a track from the album head over to http://www.myspace.com/ephelduathpainremixestheknown. To find out more about Ephel Duath visit: http://www.myspace.com/ephelduath. Catch Ephel Duath on tour on the these dates.

Mayhem - First Part Of Documentary Online

The first part (out of five) of the sequel to the acclaimed Norwegian/Swedish documentary "Cult of Aggression", focusing on the Norwegian black metal pioneers Mayhem, has been posted on the band's official web site, for stream and download. Entitled "Pure Fucking Mayhem", the new documentary was financed by the film's director, Stefan Rydehed, and "will be shown at film festivals around the globe", according to Rydehed. "If any company wants to release it, they can contact me; otherwise it will be released through the Internet".

According to the director, "Pure Fucking Mayhem" covers Mayhem's history from the early days to the present day and it is a totally new documentary. Included in the film is a brand new interview with singer Attila Csihar, conducted on February 4th, 2007 at the infamous Shining gig in Halmstad, Sweden. "With the documentary there will also be a soundtrack for it - black metal songs played on piano", Rydehed says.

The original film, "Cult of Aggression", was released in 2002 and received its world premiere in 2004 at the Oslo Filmfestival, where it was shown twice.

"The first documentary about Mayhem, 'Cult of Aggression', was about their history - mainly about their music, but, of course, if a band has such a bloody history as Mayhem, you can't that out of the documentary", Rydehed previously states. "'Cult of Aggression' was mainly with Manheim and Necrobutcher but had a few parts about Dead when I used a voice-over and some folks who lived in Kråkstad when the band had their rehearsal / living place there. The new version of , which will be totally new except Manheim's part, will still focus about the music, events, albums, members and session members and people who have been involved in the scene. So it will be a pretty huge documentary. Still underground!"
