Shaaman - Officially Split Up

Shaaman (formerly Shaman), the Brazilian band featuring former Angra members André Matos (vocals), Luis Mariutti (bass) and Ricardo Confessori (drums), has officially split up.

According to a statement released by Confessori to the "For Tomorrow" Shaaman fan club. The break-up, which has been long rumored, is being attributed to personal and musical differences. No information is currently available regarding the bandmembers' future plans.

Shaaman released its sophomore album, "Reason", in May 2005 via AFM Records. The 10-song follow-up to 2002's "Ritual" was mixed and mastered at Heaven's Gate Studios in Wolfsburg, Germany with producer Sascha Paeth, who previously worked with such acts as Kamelot, Edguy, Rhapsody and Freedom Call. A DVD, entitled "RituAlive", came out in 2003.

Jungle Records - To Release Another "Fake" Fields Of The Nephilim Album

A recently posted news item on the official site of the Fields Of The Nephilim states that Jungle is about to release another, after "Fallen", fake FOTN album called "Genesis And Revelation"

"Some of you may be aware of the insidious release of a new 'box set'
of Fields of the Nephilim works entitled Genesis and Revelation.
Camden-based record company Jungle Records are yet again attempting to
deceive our famously loyal followers into parting with their cash.

Please be aware that this 'product', which claims to include previously unreleased
audio tracks and audio-visual live footage from the band, is no more than a shoddy concoction of
generally low quality recordings and bootlegs, much of which have been freely available on the Internet for years.
The release contains no new or official material, and is
not sanctioned, sponsored or condoned in any way by Fields of the Nephilim.

Please note also that Fields of the Nephilim benefit nothing from the release of this material,
and we urge all fans to boycott this and any other products issued by them without recourse to the band.
As previously stated these releases in no way reflect the incredibly high standards
that the band has always insisted upon since its inception."

The same news item contains some more positive information -

"On a more speculative note, the buzz in the Watchman camp is that recently
Carl McCoy has been in intensive discussions with original members Paul and Nod Wright.
Although the reasons for these meetings are yet to be disclosed,
the rumour is that a further more positive announcement will be made in the near future."

UK Progressive metallers Threshold are currently recording the follow-up to their award winning 2004 album "Subsurface". Recording is taking place at Thin Ice Studios and Bray Studios in the south of England, produced by Karl Groom and Richard West.

The new album has a working title of "Pilot In The Sky Of Dreams", and the song titles are: Slipstream, This is your life, Elusive, Disappear, Fighting for breath, Hollow, Safe to fly, One degree down, Landing lights.

Mac, in the middle of vocal sessions at Bray, said: 'If I thought it would be this good I'd have joined Threshold sooner! I've got a good feeling about this album. I think things are going to snowball for us next year, I thought so even before I heard the demos. I'm having a brilliant time!'

Threshold's last album "Subsurface" picked up 15 Album Of The Month awards across the globe. Earlier this year the band moved to Nuclear Blast Records to join a highly successful roster of bands including In Flames, Nightwish and Blind Guardian.

Recording and mixing of "Pilot In The Sky Of Dreams" is expected to be complete in November, with a release planned for early in 2007.

Iced Earth - Old Drummer Returns

Brent Smedley, drummer for Iced Earth in the later 90's has rejoined the band. He will be the drummer for Iced Earth's upcoming tours, and on the band's recording of their upcoming concept album the "Something Wicked" saga Parts 1 & 2. He will then remain as their drummer in the future. Smedley originally left the band due to 'personal issues'.

Here is a posting by Iced Earth mainman Jon Schaffer on Iced Earth's official website:

"For those of you not familiar you can hear Brent's amazing drumming on the 'Alive in Athens' CD, which in my opinion is the best thing about the recording. I can tell you that on a personal level this makes me very happy. Brent left the band about 7 years ago due to personal issues and I've missed him ever since. WELCOME BACK BROTHER!! The machine gun tight rhythm section is back!!!!

I wish Bobby Jarzombek the best of luck in his future endeavors, it was a pleasure jamming with him in the short time that we did.

Due to a personal situation Ernie Carletti will not be able to participate in band activities.

I will be making a significant announcement concerning the guitar and bass player positions very soon.

Also, the writing is going well and things are on track. I will post some details soon on www.icedearth.com. As challenging as this gigantic story is to tell in music, I have no doubt that it will be the pinnacle of Iced Earth's work thus far".

Slayer - Christ Illusion Banned In India

Mumbai-based EMI Virgin India Ltd said Friday (October 6) it will recall all copies of the new Slayer album "Christ Illusion" following protests by a Christian group, Mumbai-based Catholic Secular Forum (CSF).

Early this week, Joseph Dias, general secretary of CSF, issued a statement taking "strong exception" to the album's cover artwork, which he said depicts "Christ with a missing eye and amputated arms." He added, "we also condemn the track, 'Skeleton Christ' as the lyrics are an insult to Christianity." The CSF also sent a memorandum to Mumbai's police commissioner, adding that the album "will affect the sensibilities of the Muslims on the track 'Jihad' and secular Indians who have respect for all faiths."

Kaveri Khullar, marketing manager, EMI India said in an interview, "We met with the CSF and were apologetic while assuring them that all copies of the album would be pulled out. We have no plans of re-issuing it in any way."

The "Christ Illusion" album had been on the shelves for only a week. Khullar did not confirm the number of units released only stating, "There weren't too many that we launched anyway."

Dream Theater - Seek New Label/Recording New Album

Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy revealed during an appearance on October 6 on the "Friday Night Rocks" radio show on New York's Q104.3 FM that the band has ended its longtime collaboration with Atco/EastWest Records/The Atlantic Group and is currently in talks with several labels about a possible new record deal.

In addition, the group has entered a New York City studio with engineer Paul Northfield (Rush, Queensryche, Suicidal Tendencies, Marilyn Manson) to begin recording its follow-up to 2005's "Octavarium", tentatively due next April/May. A few excerpts from Portnoy's "Friday Night Rocks" interview follow:

On current label negotiations and new album recordings:

"We didn't wanna sit around waiting to close up the deal and deal with all the legal paperwork and all that, and have to wait until all that was done to start the record, so we booked the studio time ? we wanted to start the record ? so we started a month ago. But we've been meeting with lots of labels since we are here in New York , and I think we're probably days to weeks away from making a decision and making an announcement."

"We've done all of this pretty much on our own at this point. The labels thus far have? With the exception of our heyday 15 years ago, with 'Images and Words' and everything ? other than that, we've pretty much just built this thing on our own, so it'll be amazing to see what we can do with a little bit of support."

The whole interview can be found here.

Twisted Tower Dire - Vocalist Quits

American Heavy Metallers Twisted Tower Dire have posted the following at their official website:

"Our long time vocalist and friend Tony left the band last Friday. Because of some personal problems he's been having we asked him to take a break from the band and not do the string of shows we have lined-up throughout the fall. This was mainly out of concern for him and also because we thought it would stabilize the band. Tony told us he was quitting on the spot if we asked him take a break. So far, that is that. Right now we're not sure if there's any chance he will come back. Our thoughts are with him and his family. The conversation only lasted about an hour, but It was absolutely one of the worst things I've had to go through between friends. For the meantime TTD is playing out with Johnny Aune on vocals from the Raleigh metal band Viper. Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/viper"

Twisted Tower Dire have lined up the following dates with Attacker, Deadly Blessing, Sacred Oath and Dantesco:

October
27 - Brooklyn, New York at The Hook
28 - Glouster City, New Jersey at The Pirates Den (with Motornature)
29 - Hoboken, New Jersey at Maxwell's (Deadly Blessing not on this bill)

Twisted Tower Dire's upcoming album "Netherworlds" is set for release on February 23rd 2007, through Remedy Records.

Opeth - Plans For South American Tour Cancelled

Sweden's Opeth has posted the following message on its official web site:

"Despite trying to come to South America numerous times, it is with regret that Opeth cannot get to South America this year. a proper headline show involves Opeth bringing a lot of equipment with them. New airline excess baggage rules mean that this equipment now has to be freighted and the costs of doing this did not make the tour financially viable. We will do our utmost to try and get to South America on the next album tour cycle."
