Pantheist - Sign With Grau Records, Line-Up Changes

Pantheist are thrilled to announce that after several months of negotiations, the band has signed a contract with German label Grau Records to release their upcoming album as well as two additional optional albums.

The official press release reads as follows: "We have been following Grau for years and have always been impressed by the quality of their material, so we feel honoured to be part of their family now. We thank Tom for his trust and we are already in the process of mixing our fourth album with Greg Chandler at Priory Studios. We are fully confident that this upcoming album, that is bound to remain untitled to signify the new start in our history, contains the most powerful, emotive and heartfelt material we have produced so far and we are impatient to finish mixing and mastering in January for a projected spring 2011 release. You can find photographs of us recording in the studio, as well as some short clips, on our Facebook and MySpace pages.

In other news, we regret to inform you that after having been a core member of the band since 2004, Mark Bodossian (Esoteric) is leaving Pantheist to move to Norway. Mark joined the band during the recording sessions of Amartia and he also participated in the recordings of The Pains of Sleep, Journey Through Lands Unknown, Unveiling the Signs as well as our upcoming album which we are still in the process of mixing. Furthermore, he has played tens of gigs with us, as well as participating at a tour with Skepticism and Ophis in 2008. We wish him the best of luck with all his future endeavours.

We are currently rehearsing with Aleksej Obradovic (ex-De Profundis) on bass and are quite confident that he will be up to the difficult task of filling in Mark's shoes.

Finally, Pantheist are among the confirmed bands for a doom metal festival that will take place in Dordrecht (The Netherlands) on the 14th of May. More details will be made known about this soon. We will play several more gigs and are planning a small tour around the release of our next album (likely to take place in spring 2011) so any interested promoters, both in and outside the UK, please get in touch for bookings now."

Acheron - Is Back Already

Last May, Acheron founder Vincent Crowley announced that the underground cult US Black Death metal band was calling it quits and would not be doing any more recordings or shows.
It was a surprise to both fans and band members alike, considering Acheron had just released a well received album called The Final Conflict: Last Days Of Gods, filmed their first official music video for "I Am Heathen" and was on the verge of doing a slew of other projects, which included another studio recording, a dvd release and a variety of shows and festival dates. So what happened to cause the band's break-up?

It seems that a lot of things went down before the shit finally hit the fan. Crowley states: "There is too much involving the whole reason for the band's demise. All I can say is that there were a lot of misunderstandings, including a lack of communication and some actions that were done. The end result of it all pretty much killed my will to continue the band. "

After almost a year, the smoke has cleared and the negative things between former members have been worked out. Vocalist/bassist Vincent Crowley (ex-Nocturnus, ex-Incantation), drummer Kyle Severn (ex-Incantation) and guitarist Max Otworth have decided to re-open Hell's Gate and invoke the music beast Acheron once again.

Crowley commented: "I really didn't think I would do Acheron again. Before the band broke-up I was working with a talented bunch of new musicians, but the vibe just wasn't there. I couldn't play without having that vibe. Now that almost everyone from the last studio line-up has agreed to work together again, I am totally onboard and open to any ideas regarding this musical entity!"

Drummer Kyle Severn added: "I am happy as HELL that we were able to put aside the unfortunate BS band politics/drama that sometimes can arise, hell even worse when you're not even sure why it even happens. Especially, when Vince and I, who have been jamming together for 10 years and have been friends even longer are able to continue to go forward. It is a great metal pleasure to announce that we are going to be able to play for the Acheron friends and fans and to continue working forward on the next piece of pure aggression that we call Acheron. Yes we will be moving at our own pace, but the important issue is that we will be moving forward. Late last year we were working on new material and can't wait to bust out the rehearsal tapes and start reviewing our next installment of Blasphemy and Apocalypse."

Omen - Part Ways With Singer

Long-running US power metallers Omen have parted ways with vocalist George Call (who also sings in US power metal band Aska).

Commented Omen mainman/guitarist Kenny Powell: "I loved George singing for Omen and I have great respect for him. However, I made a commitment to Omen and myself three years ago to try and do the final three Omen records equal to the first three. I was 53 at the time, I am now 56 and want to accomplish every thing possible before my skills start to diminish. At this rate I will get my first social security check before I finish a new Omen record. It is simply not acceptable for me to wait any longer... At this point in time I must put Omen above anything else.

The new record is finally moving forward, and the great thing for me is that it is going to be even better than I thought possible. Matt Story is doing the vocals. He was the person that I wanted all along, but it was not possible because of other commitments. He has a great voice and has time to do the Omen CD now. He has been here every time I have asked and busted his ass to three and four in the morning without a single complaint.

I honestly feel that Hammer Damage will shock the metal world. Look for the new CD by early spring, and then we can start touring again. I think Greece should be the first stop!"

Turisas - New Album Details Revealed

Finland, Japan: February 23, 2011
Germany, Austria, Switzerland: February 25, 2011
Rest Of Europe: February 28, 2011
Australia, New Zealand: March 4, 2011
North America: March 8, 2011

The title track off the band's highly anticipated new album is available as a free download at this location.

Stand Up And Fight cover art] tracklist:

01. The March Of The Varangian Guard
02. Take The Day!
03. Hunting Pirates
04. βένετοι! - πράσινοι!
05. Stand Up And Fight
06. The Great Escape
07. Fear The Fear
08. End Of An Empire
09. The Bosphorus Freezes Over

The rest of the press release reads as follows: "Stand Up And Fight is a loose continuation of the story from The Varangian Way, and picks up where the previous one left us, in Constantinople," explains mainman Mathias Nygård. "However, it is not a sequel as such. In general, the songs are much more universal and deal with topics that can be placed just as tightly into the modern world as in the 11th century Byzantine Empire. Stand Up And Fight has much more to offer the contemporary listener."

Their more contemporary and universal approach is also reflected by a revamped look: "Turisas has always been about progression and evolution, and now with a new album we're not here to repeat ourselves but to have something new to come with - also visually. Our look has developed through the years, and it's never been something we created once to be static forever. Innovation is reinventing yourself regularly. We toured The Varangian Way for three and a half years with a look that was tied to the album. With a new release, it was time for a makeover. The visual side has always played a very strong role in Turisas, and fear not - that's not going to change. Stronger than ever, Turisas has returned!"

The biggest, boldest and most gloriously extravagant album of the band's career, Stand Up And Fight erupts like the ultimate heavy metal musical, with many layers of orchestration and choral harmonies adding to these songs' intense sense of drama and mischief. Although remaining true to the spirit of past Turisas records, the new album, which was mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth/Katatonia) at Fascination Street in Sweden, takes the Finns to a whole new level of depth and bravado, as their unmistakable sound expands before our very ears, consistently conjuring up vivid images of the Vikings' ongoing adventures.

Crowbar - Have A New Song Online

Earlier this week Noisecreep premiered a brand-new Crowbar song, called "The Cemetery Angels".

The track comes off the band's upcoming effort Sever The Wicked Hand, to be released in February next year via eOne Music.

"The song has all the elements that Crowbar are about: speed, then a killer, hooky pre-chorus, a hooky chorus and then a stupidly heavy and sludgy slow ending," Windstein told Noisecreep, breaking the song down into its base parts.

"It's personal to me, because in New Orleans, the area is known for architecture in the cemeteries," Windstein explained. "Since the city is below sea level, the tombs are above ground and elaborate, and they say that cemetery angels watch over the tombs. I feel like angels are watching me as far as everything I've done. I'm not dead yet and have been sober for four months, and I have this whole new outlook on life and a brand new spin on everything."

Windstein also shed some light on the song's lyrical arc and its relation to his newly-acquired sobriety, saying, "The opening line is 'You gave me wings and took the sky away,' which is a line from an book. I am not a 'program person,' but that is precisely what alcohol did for me. It gave me wings and then took the sky away. Alcohol can make you feel good, but you are lost. So the lyrics are a spin on that."

Go to this location to stream "The Cemetery Angels".

06. As I Become One
07. A Farewell To Misery
08. Protectors Of The Shrine
