Gotthard - To Carry On With New Singer

After some deliberation, Swiss hard-rock veterans Gotthard have decided to continue their activities.

The band released the following collective statement: "After the tragic accident of our friend and singer Steve Lee, who died October the 5th 2010 in the USA, we withdrew ourselves until after the new year and took a break. Now we are back again with plans for the future and a difficult task to fulfil.

Guitarist Leo Leoni:"After the very emotional days after Steve´s death, it was important for us to first of all try and cope with the pain, give it a place to rest and find ourselves again. And so we sat down in the new year and tried to look at the new situation "soberly"... it was obvious to all of us very quickly that we had to go on - Gotthard is not a job for us - GOTTHARD IS OUR LIFE!!"

Drummer Hena Habegger: "Of course it can only go on if we are lucky to find the right guy. We're not only searching for a voice which can bring our songs alive again. We are looking much more for a singer who also humanly fits with us - with the Gotthard Family!"

Guitarist Freddy Scherer: "For all of us it's a big challenge and it will not be easy at all. But we have good faith and we do what we do best - make music!"

Bassist Marc Lynn: "A big thank you to all the fans. Your concern, cards, e-mails and entries in the guestbook have given us the supporting power to deal with what has happened better and to gather new courage for the future."

Syrach - Announces New Drummer

Norwegian doom metal band Syrach parted ways with drummer Adam Suleiman in October of 2010. The band has now issued the following announcement about recruiting a new drummer.

We are proud to announce the new addition to the Syrach crew. Jan Åge has decided to join our ranks, and will from now on take on the drumming. Jan Åge comes from the band Temple Sleep and has also toured together with Octavia Sperati amongst others.

We will also like to thank all the others for coming in for rehearsals and trying out. You have all been great, but there was really no doubt when the time to choose came.

We will now focusing on rehearsing the new material, so that we can start recording a new and great doom album, with the brand new line-up. All songs are made, but will now be shaped into the great Syrachian style! We will be ready to take on gigs as well, if anything comes along. So all; wish Jan Åge a warm and doomed welcome!

Katatonia - Special Anniversary Gigs Announced

Swedish band Katatonia have revealed the following update:

20 years of Katatonia going strong calls for a celebration and we'll be doing just that by throwing five very special anniversary gigs in Europe this coming May presented as the 'Last Fair Day Gone Night - An Evening With Katatonia' tour 2011.

We've decided to play the entire 'Last Fair Deal Gone Down' album front to back as that's the one album that got us true worldwide recognition for the first time, but 2011 is also the album's 10th anniversary so re-visiting this album seems more fitting than any other record we've done. A second set will follow that will see us play a mix of tracks from the rest of our catalogue. We'll be doing some fan favourites classics but also look into a couple of obscure B-sides and such that we've never or hardly played live before. Together you should get over two hours of live music on this last fair day gone night.

Besides the standard tickets, which will go on sale this Wednesday Jan 19th, we've decided to reserve 70 tickets per show for VIP's who will be up for some real nice treats.

If you're one of those VIP's you will receive a Katatonia tour messenger bag upon arrival filled with exclusive items such as a t-shirt exclusive to that particular show, an exclusive VIP laminate, a + 20 page tour programme (that we're all busy writing as I'm typing this), a ltd edition vinyl of our latest album 'Night is The New Day' and a bunch more cool Katatonia merch items.

But that's not all; all VIP's will have a dedicated meet 'n greet with the whole band so we can shake hands, have your picture taken and hang out for a chat! After that you can watch us sound check for about an hour where you'll hear some songs from the set list and watch us prepare the show. Then it's dinner time so you can go out and grab a bite while you'll be confident to learn that your VIP laminate will allow you back inside the venue a bit earlier than anyone else, so you'll have a smooth and free picking to where you like to position yourself.

Last but not least; right now we're very busy talking to all our equipment endorsers for them to make some goods available that we'll combine into one 'grand prize'! All VIP's will automatically enter into a draw for one lucky guy or girl to win this ultimate prize, which we'll reveal the details about in the next coming weeks. See it as a nice extra bonus already and you can't get disappointed?.

Zonaria - Bassist Leaves The Band

Bass player Markus Åkebo has left Swedish death/black metal band Zonaria.

We wish him all the best for his future ventures. The departure will not affect our upcoming plans and tours. We've got a good friend of ours stepping in on our upcoming European tour with Nile, Melechesh, Dew-Scented and Darkrise."

Leaves' Eyes - New Album Due In April

Meredead, the new album from Leaves' Eyes, will be released on April 22nd in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (with more streetdates to follow soon).

Leaves' Eyes vocalist and producer Alexander Krull is doing the final mix of Meredead at Mastersound Studio.

Cover artwork by Stefan Heilemann.

Singer Liv Kristine comments: "As we began composing the first song ideas for our fourth full-length album, all of us were very eager to take another step in strengthening both the individual sound and concept of Leaves' Eyes, like we have done album by album.

Along with the song-writing process, I made up my mind about the songs' themes, and drowned myself in different sources of literature. Some songs clearly needed lyrics rooted in northern history and culture, as well as having mystical themes. Being an Old-English fan, I decided to write some of the lyrics in Old-English, which of course included further studies of grammatical and phonetic knowledge, which I really enjoyed doing. Next to modern English and Old-English, some songs are sung in traditional Norwegian, to keep their strong individuality and focus on certain themes from special genres in Norwegian traditional singing.

The album is given the title Meredead, as one of the songs on the album. It is my own word-creation (at least I haven't found it in a dictionary yet), and it may mean both "dead by/in the sea", or "the mortal or killing sea". In my lyrics you will find traditional themes from Viking literature and Norwegian song tradition, moreover, tales from the Irish isles, some from already existing sources, some made up myself. Sometimes you will hear about men going on adventures, some ending up drowing in the sea, their wives, evil witches, three-headed trolls, or spell-bound princesses, as well as marble halls and blood-thirsty creatures. I allowed myself more freedom for the concept of Meredead, telling a number of different stories, real, mystical or sometimes maybe even both."
