Aeon - Original Drummer Returns

Swedish death metallers Aeon have released the following press statement:

"As you all may know, we have been searching for a new drummer since early September this year. We have gotten a great deal of drummer-applicants from various countries. Some of them where really awesome drummers, to say the least. We would like to take the opportunity to thank every single one of you for showing interest and sending us drum-videos of you playing our songs etc. Thank you so much and good luck with your future endeavors.

Without really thinking about it, the best solution for us was lurking around the corner. Arttu Malkki, our first original drummer (1999-2002) has during the last year been showing interest in playing faster death-metal once more. After his departure from Aeon back in 2002, Arttu has mainly been playing in heavier/slower metal bands Sanctification, The Equinox Ov The Gods and Souldrainer, ed.].

A couple of weeks ago, we saw him perform a show with our buddies Sanctification and we where really, really impressed with Arttu's "fast-drumming" comeback. Later on, Arttu asked us if we wanted to jam a couple of songs with him just to see what it would feel like. So we did, and it sounded massive! We decided to give it another shot, and once again we played songs like "Living Sin", "Soulburner", "God Gives Head", "Hel-el Ben Shachar", "Spreading Their Disease", among others and this hard-hitting drum-monster makes us sound really massive.

Both we and Arttu felt that this was just so right and we decided to once again be bandmates.

Besides the obvious fact that Arttu is a killer drummer, he is also an original, founding member of the band and goes way back with Tommy and Zeb from the pre-Aeon era in "Defaced Creation". Another detail that made Arttu our final choice is that he lives in the same city as we do, and this is a major plus. Now we can take on every single gig/tour we want to. This without having a drummer in another city or country even, that we need to fly over etc.

I remember when he first left us back in 2002 and Nils replaced him, the one thing that i missed about Arttu the most was his hard hitting and brutal drum-sound. Even if Nils is a more technical drummer, Arttu has some other qualities that suited us really well in its own way. Needless to say, they are both amazing drummers.

So we will now be spending the next couple of months rehearsing songs/setlists and after that, we will take on shows & eventually some tours if the right offers lands on the table. We are all truly exited about being a complete band once again and being able to make things really happened has never felt more possible than now.

Spawn Of Possession - Original Vocalist Returns, Working On New Material

Last week Spawn Of Possession announced they have re-joined with the band's original vocalist Dennis Röndum (ex-Visceral Bleeding). Dennis parted ways, not so amicably, with the band back in 2006. This is what he had to say about his return to Spawn Of Possession:

"I've been quite disconnected from the band for a long time now so when Bryssling got in touch with me it felt kind of surreal. But none the less amazing when he started to describe his visions for the next Spawn Of Possession record and that he wanted me to handle the vocals for it. Now, mind you, it's been over four years of silence between us and we parted on a somewhat bad note but that's in the past. The focus is now on the new material, which Bryssling has invited me to get involved with and after listening to the temp tracks, all I can say is that I'm in for a serious ride. Although my presence have been lacking in the scene I've been busy writing and recording with my new band. It's still all under wraps but hopefully I'll be able to share it with you in a not too distant future. With that said, I'm really excited to be back in the Spawn Of Possession camp and I can't wait to join the others to complete what I believe will be a masterpiece of unparalleled proportions."

Guitarist and song writer Jonas Bryssling adds: "Yes, Dennis is back in the band, where he belongs. We would like to thank Chalky for the time he was a part of the band, He helped us bringing SoP back to life for a moment and without him we could not have done the Australian tour. So we are thankfull for everything he did for us and whish him the best of luck.

We have too many songs, and some of them are a tad bit long, 7-10 min each. So we have decided to cut down the amount of tracks from twelve songs to ten. We are now finishing up the last songs, polishing the arrangements and practicing the material. We are in the process of signing to a new label and booking a studio.
More info about that when we have worked out the details."

Unearth - Original Bass Player Dies In Scooter Crash

In case you haven't heard, last week original Unearth bass player Chris "Rover" Rybicki passed away. He lost his life from injuries sustained four weeks ago at the hands of an alleged drunk driver. The article reporting the incident can be read here.

Added the band: "Rover hadn't been in Unearth since 2001, but he remained a good friend to us all throughout the years and this tragedy has hit us hard.

Not only was Rover a talented musician, but he was also one of the funniest dudes you would ever know. His wit, dark humor and don't give a fuck attitude made him a unique person that we all loved having in our lives. His memory will live on amongst his family and friends with the countless stories of Rover being Rover. He will be sorely and forever missed.

Rover played on our our EP Above the Fall of Man, our debut full length The Stings of Conscience and also on two tracks off our 2002 EP Endless. We would like to take a second to urge people to not drink and drive. Please be responsible so these tragedies stop happening."

Malevolent Creation - Rejoined By Original Bassist

Malevolent Creation have once again been rejoined by original bassist Jason Blachowicz. Blachowicz initially left on good terms to further his tattoo career, but the death metal sickness still runs deep in his veins.

"Been in hiding, working in tattoo shops for quite some time now but my gut has been aching to do one of the things that I do best... spreading malevolence across the globe with my brothers in metal," commented Blachowicz. "The evil in my blood has motivated me to dust the cobwebs off of my bass and commit to performing blasphemy and anger upon mine and everyone else's ears once again. This is also for one of my inspirations, Peter Steele, and for all of the loyal Malevolent Creation fans who have been supporting us for 23 fucking years! Our 11th album, Invidious Dominion, is going to rip the weak and feeble to shreds."

Malevolent Creation's 11th studio outing was produced and recorded by Erik Rutan at Mana Studios in Florida. The new album, entitled Invidious Dominion, will be released on August 24th in North America via Nuclear Blast.

Agent Steel - Part Ways With Vocalist, Reunite With Original Singer

Original news, posted on 25.04.2010

US Speed/Thrash metallers Agent Steel have issued the following short update:

"For those who have not heard the news; Agent Steel has parted ways with vocalist Bruce Hall Steel Prophet] on good terms. We're still writing new material for our upcoming 6th studio album that we plan on recording sometime this year. We will issue a press release regarding our "search" for a new vocalist; who knows? We may have one already... so stay tuned."

UPDATE (thanks to Bad English and Hellish Star)

Only a few days after Agent Steel announced having parted ways with Bruce Hall, the band now confirmed that none other than original vocalist John Cyriis has returned to the fold - which is fan-fucking-tastic news!

Here's the official word from the band: "As some of you may or may not have already heard the news that Agent Steel has parted ways with vocalist Bruce Hall. We as a band would like to acknowledge the accomplishments together with Bruce and the three solid metal offerings; Omega Conspiracy, Order Of The Illuminati and Alienigma'. Together we had the fortune of touring and sharing the stage in some amazing places and visited some breathtaking countries. Bruce dedicated over a decade to Agent Steel and for this he should be recognized, and we part on good terms. We as a band still have the fire and passion to deliver the metal goods to fans from the past, present and future.

We had been writing new material for the next chapter of Agent Steel and after the news got out that we separated from Bruce, we were contacted by original singer, John Cyriis. Call it destiny; call it what you will, but now the communicative channel is open between Agent Steel and vocalist Cyriis; we are in talks about an imminent Agent Steel reunion tour possibly involving summer/autumn 2010 appearances and an extensive "2011" metal blitz.

Honestly, we do not know how long this reunion will last; however this could be the long-awaited destiny of Agent Steel originally interrupted, so long as everything moves forward in an evolving good working climate. Our objective regarding this Agent Steel reunion is attached with the intentions of providing the opportunity to not only the dedicated fans, but also to a whole new generation of metal fans the chance to see Agent Steel live on stage with Cyriis; the original voice on the classic Skeptics Apocalypse, Unstoppable Force and Mad Locust Rising releases. The legacy continues..."

Origin - Part Ways With Vocalist, Replacement Announced

US metallers Origin have posted the following statement on their MySpace blog:

"Origin and Extreme Management Group, Inc. are proud to announce the first set of dates for Origin's 2010 spring/summer tour campaign.

Origin will be visiting Australia and New Zealand for the first time ever and will also be returning to Europe. We can not wait to return to our European friends and fans, and look forward to meeting new people in Australia and New Zealand.

As it's been speculated elsewhere, James Lee is no longer a part or Origin. After 9 plus years with the band, it unfortunately came time for Lee and Origin to part ways.

On these tours, please welcome to the stage Mica "Maniac" Meneke (Sol Asunder, Ontogeny, The Faceless, Legion Victorious) on vocals. We are confident that Origin will raise the bar in 2010. We have a few surprises in store, so get ready."

Sincerely, Origin and Extreme Management."

(Also thanks to Dangerboner)

Candiria - Original Guitarist Passed Away

In the wake of Candiria's latest release, "Toying With The Insanities", current members of the band have heard the sad news that original Candiria guitarist, Chris Puma, passed away last week, on September 20th.

The band has issued the following statement: "Chris Puma died on September 20th 2009. The cause is not known to us, as his family did not speak of it. He leaves behind two children, 3 year old Aislinn A'marie and a 4 month old Aidan Todd. Chris was a great friend to the founding members of the band, and a respected musician among his friends and peers. He was a kind and gentle person and he will be missed."

Puma was one of the founding members of the band, playing guitar in Candiria from 1992 to 1997, while helping to create the unique sound that Candiria is known for today. He can be heard on such Candiria records as "Deep In The Mental" (1995) and "urrealistic Madness" (1995).

Killing Joke - Reunite Original Line Up

The following news item was posted on the Killing Joke official website:

Finally, after numerous line-up changes through the years, all original Killing Joke members reunite for new album and world tour.

Drummer, Paul Ferguson, rejoins the line up for the first time since 1987 enabling a whole new generation of fans to see Killing Joke's legendary original formation. Diehard fans have been waiting for this moment for two decades!

Bassist, Martin 'Youth' Glover also steps back into the live arena after a near 15 hiatus, having not played live with Killing Joke since 1994's Pandemonium tour.

The tour will see Killing Joke take up a two night residency in most venues offering a different set on each evening. On the first night, they will play their first two albums in their entirety, 1980's self-titled album followed by the album 'What's This? For!'. Their
second performance in each city will treat fans to 1994's Pandemonium and the Island Records singles of'79 to '80.

Once described by Ferguson as 'the sound of the earth vomiting', Killing Joke is anthemic and grandiose in it's evocation of nightmare visions. Taking a sarcastic jab at authority and perceived reality to a sonically charged mixture of post punk and metal, Killing Joke's heavy guitars and pounding tribal drums conjure a primitive atmosphere of doom, gloom and resistance.

Notorious for their use of inflammatory imagery, a backlash against a world they perceived as ever more materialistic, unjust and conservative, Killing Joke, railed against the establishment and created a unique sound from their very conception.

Ironically, in the current musical climate with it's obsession with rehashing eighties sounds, the 80's saw Killing Joke really pushing music forward, incorporating danceable elements with aggressive, grinding guitars and thumping drums. With elements of proto-techno rock, their post apocalyptic vision has inspired bands as diverse and influential as Nirvana, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden and Godflesh. Killing Joke have always been and continue to be more than just a band.

Godfathers of post-punk, Killing Joke return with their eagerly anticipated new album to coincide with their world tour. Album release date TBC.

LIVE DATES
September
13 - (JP) Tokyo, Club Quattro
14 - (JP) Tokyo, Club Quattro
16 - (ES) Madrid, Heineken

19 - (IT) Milan, Rolling Stone

Hellhammer - To Re-Release Original Demos

The following message was posted on the website of Celtic Frost:

"There exist countless Hellhammer demo bootlegs, but they all utterly fail to capture the true aura, to represent the band as it actually was. They have been compiled from dismal multi-generation copies of the original tapes, and they are invariably riddled with factual and historical errors or outright lies. Former Hellhammer members Tom Gabriel Fischer, Martin Eric Ain, and Steve Warrior have decided to rectify this situation once and for all. "Demon Entrails" is the first official release of the legendary Hellhammer demos "Death Fiend"/"Triumph of Death" and "Satanic Rites" since the original limited cassette editions in 1983.

This release has been specially re-mastered from copies of the original master tapes under the supervision of Tom Gabriel Fischer, and the demos now represent Hellhammer exactly as the band sounded when recording these songs in June and December of 1983. Drawing from a wealth of previously unknown historical material and artwork as well as hundreds of unreleased Hellhammer photos from 1982 to 1984, "Demon Entrails" will also feature all lyrics and essays detailing the individual demo recording sessions.

"Demon Entrails" will be released as an opulent oversized double CD and as a gatefold triple vinyl album. Both versions will feature a lavish booklet and a poster. There will also be a third, bare-bones low-price CD version, designed to cater to markets which will not carry the standard CD due to its irregular size.

The release is scheduled for February 2008, through Prowling Death Records/Century Media."
