Best Death Metal Band (Excluding Death)

After seeing a similar post asking which people thought was the best death metal band, almost everyone responded "Death" So I'm wondering if Death was excluded, what would people pick instead.

It would be between Entombed or Dismember for me.... Most likely Dismember .. Both have a straight forward unpretentious no bullshit kinda of style which is what I look for most in Death metal (This statement applies to a lot of Swedish death metal but they are my favourites).

DEATH! - troll response that BitterCOld will likely appreciate - can MSers read? ![]() In all seriousness, I'd go with any of the following three: Bolt Thrower, Immolation, Vader. Bolt Thrower started out as a sort of death/grind band and worked their way up from there. They grew immensely over the years but never completely changed, similar to bands like Amon Amarth, where more of the same is pleasing to fans, even critical ones. + 1 for the chick keyboardist too, supposedly the first female extreme metal musician. Immolation is an instant classic, and just about everything they've released is death metal gold. They don't release 50 compilation albums and singles, which adds to their professionalism and affirms fans that their focus is always on new material, which is always high quality stuff. And Vader... well more of the same can be said about them, plus they have ties to Decapitated. PS - if this is in the metal arena, you'll probably want to edit the thread to include a poll.

If tech death is included, I'd go with Decapitated or Psycroptic. For death death, I'll go with Morbid Angel.

29.04.2011 - 11:15 Written by Troy Killjoy on 28.04.2011 at 23:37 as has been said she's the bass player ![]() But it depends on how you define extreme metal though. She joined Bolt Thrower in 1987. Détente with Dawn Crosby had already released a couple of demos and a full-length (Recognize No Authority) by then. Same for Sentinel beast with Debbie Gunn on vocals.

Morbid Angel is still my favorite death metal band, followed by Suffocation and Incantation. Glad to see Death isn't an option here.

My favorite death metal album is definitely Tomb Of The Mutilated by Cannibal Corpse, but I don't really have a favorite band. Umm.. Does melodeath count? 'Cause I'm loving the shit out of that genre right now. It's still tough, but I can narrow it down to Dark Tranquillity, Opeth, At The Gates, Carcass, In Flames, and Into Eternity, and from there I can just put them all into a playlist and put the one that comes up first. And the winner is.. CARCASS!!! ![]()

Decapitated really isn't that technical, kool epic sound, sure. Not quite in a league with bands like Arsis and Mithras. I'll pick a few here, Misthrope for thier prog touches, Nocturnus for having one of the best DM albums eva, The Key. Mithras, 2 fold a some what unique sound and some techiness, and Unleashed for incorperating all the things acrossed DM that to me makes the genre what it is.

Mmm well without subgenres I would definitely say Cynic, they are excellent musicians and their work (even though it's few) is astonishing...I had the opportunity to see them live and their show was perfect, it gave me chills...

Malevolent Creation. No gimick about them, just straightforward classic old school death metal.

I'd have to say Opeth. I was drawn to them because of their progressive side, since i was already a fan of progressive rock before extreme metal, and they are the band that got me into death metal because of that.
