Third effort of one of the best gothic bands of Norway, with Mortem Veland gone, the questions popped out... Is it as good as Beyond The Veil? Is the band is taking a new direction?Electronic elements will take over as they did with Theatre Of Tragedy and Paradise Lost? Well, I'm gladly to say that yes, no and no! Yes is a very good album! What is gothic metal today? Is gothic a good female voice togheter with a male growling? Trisiania thinks so. Now at their third full-lenghth album (without considering the debut EP "Tristania") we can immediatly notice that they slightly changed their style: the artwork indeed transmits us (???) the sensation of a cold World Of Glass, but it has changed from the usual Gothic atmospheres. Am I the only one who thinks this is actually the best Tristania album? The first 2 are both excellent, but after having heard all 3 at least 20-30 times, World Of Glass to me just has superior, more focused/soulful songwriting; plus Vibeke's exquisite performance is given more space (and rightfully so) instead of being overshadowed by harsh vocals like an intricately prepared dish overly spiced/peppered.

No, you're not. It could very easily be their best for me. Of course, I'm of the rare opinion that ALL of their albums are amazing, but still, World of Glass is special among them. Yes, Vibeke's performance is exquisite. What I love most is the songwriting, however, including the lyrics. The contrasting beauty and harshness is at a peak here, while the lyrics are poignant and thought-provoking. The music is varied perfectly so as to create a stained-glass window of every song. Take a step back and it all fits together to create one pictures, but in pieces you can hear so many different elements.

Best thing they did here was giving more space to Vibeke, I really like her voice, especially in deadlocked, awesome track. The lyrics are great, too. This was one of my first gothic albums, and took lots of time to get into, but it grew on me, even though it's not my favorite by them, still awesome record. Shining path, deadlocked and crushed dreams are my favs here.

This album was the beginning of Tristania's decline, the departure of mortem is an issue here for me, I noticed a major difference in the songwriting, and It's missing that trademark sound that he brought to the previous Tristinia albums, his guitar melodies were missing as well as his harsh vocals which blended perfectly well with Vibeke's vocals, although the positive from this album is that it allowed the opportunity for vibeke to really show her vocal talent, it's a shame this was her last album with Tristania. Overall it was a decent album, containing some good songs, with good songwriting, and maintaining some of the old features from the previous albums.
