Great news! Another album to get excited about.

And so "Under the Red Cloud" infected my brain (2:46 ->).

Just been working through the 'making of' videos- cannot wait for 4th September! New Amorphis, Riverside and Iron Maiden albums on the same day will be immense

I am stunned at their near impeccable taste. This album is both an evolution and a familiar sound.

Well, this was a pleasant surprise. Best album since Silent Waters, at least. It feels like they suddenly became 10 years younger (again, since they already did that with Eclipse).

This is so good, I think even better than Skyforger, and I loved that album!

And here we go, our first 1 rating! Surprise surprise, from someone who just gave 10 to the new Iron Maiden album.

Anyway, this was a pleasant surprise! Somewhat heavier than the latest albums, but with the same catchy melodies, and a proggier sound at moments. I was wondering what direction they could take after so many great albums in a row, and here's the perfect answer!

Not quite as good as Circle. It's more varied and "interesting", but it doesn't quite hit the spot in the same way. Still one of their best.

Oh My Perkele! To my ears this IS best Amorphis album since Tales. I only have one question: Can Amorphis after Under The Red Cloud make a even better album?

This and the plague within by paradise lost are maybe the best albums of this decade.

I wouldn't say this blows Circle out of the water, but definitely comes more on it's own. I have more to say, but I'll leave that until a couple of weeks

Oh man, "The Skull" is immense. Overall, it's another fine album, as if I ever doubted it would be, that delivers everything I love about modern Amorphis whilst still sounding at least somewhat fresh. But it still needs time for me to get used to, and I think it misses abit of the instant memorability of Circle. Also, the main melodies of the title track and Bad Blood are a little close for my taste (I remember hearing the intro bit of Bad Blood and the main line from UARC in trailers and assuming they were the same song). Still, very much looking forward to getting to know it better, Amorphis really are amazing - consistently pumping out standardly-structured songs in the same style and it never gets old

Edit: really coming to love "Tree Of Ages" and "White Skull" too

They will, whenever they have some spare time. This is a "serious" site but the user ratings really are not, even though we want to cut out the stupid extremes

2 or 3 voters isn't going to dent the overall score in a few more days when more people get their votes in and it goes into the 100s.

My opinion on this album: I thought it was a bit saccharine and predictable, but of high-ish quality. Just not my thing any more (give me The Karelian Christmas or Tales From the Thousand Cakes). I'd rather spin the new Soilwork.

Their best since Skyforger I'd say. I'm very satisfied with this release. Not a bad track to be found here. Lots of variety too.

My opinion on this album: I thought it was a bit saccharine and predictable, but of high-ish quality.

To be honest, I think that's a fair enough assessment of the band as it is now - the songs are rarely departures from the standard verse/chorus/bridge format and are largely driven by immediate and loud lead guitar melodies, so it's hardly the deepest music. It's just a specific sound that pretty much only they have, which I really enjoy, and which they're so adept at delivering now that they can consistently churn out songs in said style that appeal to people that the sound works for. I think it's just a case of if you like the sound or not, there's not enough complexity or esotericism to allow people to claim "you just don't understand it" to anyone with any experience of heavy music (though some cockwombles on social media probably do anyway).

I didn't know what to expect, being so soon after Circle but wow! Best release since Skyforger for sure!

MY GOD what a stunning album. I got goosebumps during the very first song, it's such a powerful start of the album.

I loved Circle, which was a bit rougher than the equally great The Beginning of Times. I thought it would be very hard to top both of them. When I heard that Amorphis got inspired by their latest "Tales From a Thousand Lakes" tour I couldn't be happier and hopes were high to get more growling awesomeness mixed with beautiful clean melodies.

I was not disappointed!

Very, very good album.
