I was listening to SFTN yesterday and thinking that it's about time they did another record, and here we are. Really looking forward to it! I hope it's like disc 3 off SFTN

Weird thing I noticed: the album art looks just like the statue at the town square in the City of Tears from Hollow Knight.

The ambient intro of The Crimson Crown might also be part of Lumina Aurea

I'd say that The Crimson Crown picks up, where Lumina Aurea ended.

After listening to the whole thing, I particularly like the first two tracks but once again it starts to plod towards the end in a typical Raivio fashion. His songwriting just seems to be too hit-and-miss for me in general to have much replay value, even though it's a fairly enjoyable sound.

Very good sound and seems that all the right ingredients are present here, but I think this album is lacking in highlights - some songs to remember (with the exception of the first track). Feels kinda lazy...

Hard STS fanboy here :V
It's solid album. Very good IMO, as always. Swallow The Sun just knows how to do it. That's all.
But still, it's a bit different album comparing to f.ex. 'Emerald forest..' or first part of 'Songs from The North'. It's 'lighter'. There are not much growls of Miko but more cleans from Jani (whos electornic and orchestral arangements are clearly herable here). And it's kinda...happier? At this moment it's solid 8 from me, but maybe after some time will grow in me.

I happen to live nearby the world's biggest store for music CDs (no, it's neither New York nor Tokyo, it's Cologne) and I still had a x-mas gift coupon - two reasons to grab the newest Swallow The Sun today. I was happy to find one of the three last copies, according to a salesman they were (temporarily) sold out around midday. Weird, didn't expect such a hype...
First impression after two spins: production is flawless, title track is a killer, rest is not bad but nothing to freak out.

Another perfect representation of Gloom, Beauty and Despair. Though they've cut down on the Despair bit just a little this time. I love all of the songs. Each has it's great moments. For instance, never thought I'd love a guitar solo by StS but Here on the Black Earth has one i've listened to over and over again
Never Left turned out every bit as emotional as I expected. the lyrics, the delivery and the subtle guitar work paints a perfect scenery.

Is it me or 'The Crimson Crown' sounds like a mix between 'Lumina Aurea' and 'Before the summer dies' from previous album(s)?

i didn't mean they literally sound as soft as anathema, i meant they are going the same path as them or as katatonia, they are toning it down more and more.

In my opinion, maybe it has softer sound, less growling and screaming, but has very dark atmosphere.

I think it's a brilliant album but definitely not as heavy as some of their other albums/songs. I love the atmosphere they've created though.
