Out of all of the 50 United States who has the greatest bands?For me its california,obviously cuz of Slayer,Megadeth,Metallica,Forbidden,Vio-Lence,Possessed,Exodus,Testament,Dark Angel and Death Angel.Though Florida comes real close,they definitley have the best Death Metal, Deicide,Obituary,Death, and Massacre and Morbid Angel.

New Jersey really suprised me with Symphony X, but I agree with you about California and the bay area. It must have something to do with living near the ocean...

Nw York has DT, TypO and Manowar

For me its hard yto choose, I know maybe 80% of all states, I dunno those small staes near New Yourk City, up to Canada
Florida - Well I shoud not mentioin all death metal bands from area
California - Thrash metal, Hard Rock, Glam Rock
Texas - Thrash, Death Metal
NY - Doom, Gothic Metal
Others - In ewery state has good bands, but uncnown

Well, Florida have a lot of good death metal bands and California has a lot of thrash. So for me, it's between those two.

Well certainly NOT my state!

It seems that NY and NJ have a kick ass underground scene, no matter what genre you like. In the end I'd have to say Florida because of Iced Earth and Kamelot. It just wouldn't be metal without them (Plus, if you lived in FL you could drive up to Atlanta for the Prog Power festival. I, being in the Northwest, sadly have no chance)

Haha so true! I know what you mean here! (I'm currently in the US in the Rocky Mountain region...)

I'd have to say California. So many great bands have come from there, so many bands that influenced metal to unimaginable degrees. Lots of great things have come from Florida as well.

Although, I must congratulate Seattle for giving us Nevermore.

@Proud Autumn: Yes, Nevermore and Queensryche! We manage to spit out a few kick ass bands every now and then but the local scene is just so so so sucky.

Well, I'm glad I live in California because it's becoming my favorite state for metal. Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth Possesed, etc. and it's become my favorite state for black metal. Leviathan and Xasthur are some of my favorite BM bands these days.

Look I dont know what you reffer to as states there,but in the U.S.A,Russia is a country not a state.I'm talking about the United States.

though i'm not from USA .. i'd pick florida any day .. its bands that have come out of this place that have defined death metal as a genre. need i mention the names of the bansd ? .. i dont think so .. u all know them for sure

For me its Florida I think... right now I'm much more into death metal...
still California comes really close cause you cannot really deny Slayer and Metallica... classics really...

But there is one state that I think is forgoton and its IOWA for the sole fact that SlipKnot hail from there

P.S.: yeah, I know, I know... SlipKnot sux! well whatever... may be, but they are still have the biggest following in extreeme music and they are more extreeme than 70% of the true metal stuff especially if you listen to power or heavy metal... (btw those two styles are weak usualy )

Bands like Anthrax, Incantation, Mortician, Immolation, Nuclear Assault, Catastrophic, Dio, Dream Theater, Seven Witches, Prong, Skinless, Type O Negative, The Mighty Stormtroopers Of Death, and NYC's huge Hardcore scene. Oh, and Twisted Sister I may not like all of those bands, but as a whole, it's a really good representation of a wide range of styles from one state. It kind of hurts saying all this being from Chicago, but it's true. Our coolest band is probably Usurper. The underground scene is really good, but not quite up to par with some other states.

All the great US death metal bands came out from there
If Thrash was my fav type of music I would go with CA

I feel the same way basically. The thing about choosing the best metal states is that there are only a few that can really be debated. If I had to choose one, probably Florida.

well, if u were to pick from every country in the world, the answer would probably be norway, finland or sweden. for me its sweden, not because i live in sweden, but because i think that sweden has very many great death metal bands. norway is better in black metal i think, but since i like death metal better, i'd have to say sweden. bands like amon amarth, the haunted, entombed, at the gates, dark tranquility, opeth etc... tthese are just some of my favourites. the list could go on for ages...

Definately Florida because of all their good death metal.

I dont like american music, so Florida it must be.

It's got to be Florida I supsoe because not only fo they have the undisputed best death metal bands but I think they have great power metal too.

And then there are all the smaller bands from "Upstate", where I live. The Red Death, Kill Concpet, Quantum Shift, and Ave Anexoria, all came from my small town.

Sure as fuck not North Dakota (thats where I live),Id say either California or the north eastern states.Florida also gave us Crimson Glory and Connecticut gave us Fates Warning!

I would say back in the day Flordia was the state that had all the best bands they poinereed tech death in that state with bands like Cynic, Atheist, and later on Death followed suite. Then on top of that there was bands like Morbid Angel, Obituary, and Deicide. So I think I would say that Flordia is the best Death Metal with New York and Massachussetts being behind it.
