-jazz black metal(the technicality gap is incredible)
-power death metal(sure, some bands tried, but you just can't, since you'll either get more melodeath or you'll just end up writing some heavy power stuff)
-gangsta rap+"-core"(gangsta rap is all about "bitches, shootings, and cops" rapping over a simple drumbeat, while hardcore is more based on stomp rhythms and moshing riffs, and don't get me started on grindcore)
-country+every metal genre(country is mostly about a dude with a guitar doing some simple chord progressions and singing in a redneck voice about how he took the horse out for a ride or stuff, while metal, in musical essence and lyrics, just couldn't be more different)

I think symphonic death metal wouldn't be that possible of a genre...I think it already exists...

08.03.2007 - 09:24 Written by [user id=5394] on 07.03.2007 at 19:05 I checked. Their music is not like I imagine as National Socialist Power Metal. I dont know about other song but I listened to 3 songs from their myspace, its not awful and absurd as I expect. The NSPM I want is like combined of dark atmosphere (like Burzum, Absurd, Ohtar) and power/cheesy element, though they are more cheesy, only dark by the black metal vocal. Contrary, some riff solos are indeed good. IMO their music is awful but not much absurdNational Socialist. And if they committed focus on power metal as more professional, their song can be really good power metal stuff.

Jazz-influenced Funk Power Metal is impossible to imagine... then again, so many other combinations are, too!

08.03.2007 - 17:13 Written by Paganblood on 08.03.2007 at 15:16 Dark Lunacy would be one, their death metal is closer to gothenburg than extreme death though. And when Therion started to present symphonies in their death metal, I guess there is another one. I'm not sure which album is in question because I haven't listened to those released before Theli. Personally I think symphonic thrash metal would be more difficult to imagine.

Well yes of course, I totally forgot about S&M. Thrash metal is a very riffy genre and anything symphonic is rather the opposite to this, so no wonder these two aren't mixed too often. Gothic thrash or symphonic metalcore have pretty much the same problem.

@ whoever interested in symphonic death metal: I searched metal archives for 'symphonic death metal and got 76 bands as result...however most of them were fusions with black metal and other metallic genres. Some of the bands which are pure symphonic death metal (or melodic)are as follows: Hollenthon Eternal tears of sorrow (they are SDM only from now onwards) Abbadon (ger) Summoner Soul grind Persefone shadowseeds king xzoriath bladhe lykeum parodie sacrass varnas criminal hate nekrogoblikon vehement

Hmm, seems nobodys brought up the obvious of a punk-power metal. You cant possibly have the combination because punk relies on only three chords basically, while power relies on complex and melodic sounds.

Account deleted Written by [user id=22086] on 15.03.2007 at 19:32 It's called thrash metal ![]() Some impossibilities I'd like to see come to fruition would include: - Avant-Jazz and Grindcore - Dub/Reggae and Thrash Metal - Techno and Punk - Black Metal and Rap - Ska and Hardcore You know, like Painkiller, Big D & The Kids Table, Atari Teenage Riot, Norselaw, and Bomb the Music Industry. Forty years ago, combining punk rock with blues and progressive rock was impossible. Let us not forget that that combination manifested in the form of the NWOBHM. I'm NOT saying that there are no impossibilities... But I am saying that accepting impossibilities will prevent them from becoming possible. Browsing these posts, yeah, there are some suggestions that I can't picture, but it's mostly a list of just stuff that hasn't happened yet, and I'm amused but not surprised at how many responses there are to proposed paradoxes that not only can exist, but already do. Bands like Crotchduster, Spazztic Blurr, and Die Apokalyptischen Reiter are impossible.

Account deleted Written by [user id=22086] on 30.03.2007 at 20:22 The only punk band I know of that does the three-chord thing is The Ramones. Would you like me to make a list of punk bands who don't? A punk band does not have to limit themselves to three chords. And then to say "besides thrash metal" is pretty much the same thing as saying "besides all of the countless examples of just this." Written by [user id=22086] on 30.03.2007 at 20:39 Well, as for thrash jazz, there's Alarum. I might also argue that Pestilence could fit in there, although they are in general definately a death metal band. I would also argue that a marriage of classical and punk would just yield some kind of metal, but to blend them and still keep the influences distinct would be extremely difficult, I think. Swing metal I would certainly like to hear. I'm not denying its possibility, but I'd like to hear a band that combines ska and old school death metal. I've heard ska-core and "sketal" of ska/thrash (See: Leftover Crack/Chocking Victim, Dancehall Satan), but not really death metal. Honestly, it might already exist, I hear New York has a significant ska/metal scene, but I'm very unfamiliar with it.

30.03.2007 - 22:08 Written by [user id=1455] on 30.03.2007 at 19:33 techno punk isn't all that impossible imo. techno+old school punk, now that's hard to imagine, but with all the new "hi, my name is karl and i'm a punk...._|_" kids around, you never know...hardcore and ska fused isn't all that impossible, since both are based on slower rhythms, and that's basically the first thing you look at when trying to see if 2 genres can merge. rap black metal is the most impossible one, mainly because of the lyrical themes, but i saw this rapper once, he got the title of "fastest rapper in the world" and he could have been even faster than a usual BM band would take(500 syllables in 50 or so seconds). but with "slower" BM songs like transilvanian hunger, rapping over the guitar rhythm, which is in the normal rap tempo range, wouldn't be impossible.

Power sludge metal wouldn't be to hard to do...lots of feedback and atmosphere combined with epic themes and speedy riffs? It could work...as for power drone, it would be easy to have a speedy drone with some high clean vocals and epic lyrical themes...
