The word trivium is an academic term from the middle ages used to describe the three subjects that were taught in universities at that time. It also serves as the root for the word trivial and indeed, Trivium more that lives up to its name as not only is it trivial, it is also mundane and superficial.

Trivium is yet another in the ever growing line of bands that sound like Killswitch Engage ie. - they play the commercial hybrid consisting mainly of metalcore and having some elements of thrash metal and Gothenburg melodic death metal. We all know the drill - growled/screamed verses, refrains sung in an off-key and whiny manner and an almost inhuman, sterile production which makes the whole thing seem like it was designed and not composed. Every record label these days must have one of these little bands in their arsenal and Trivium is reportedly Roadrunner's secret weapon. Well, RoadRunner must be keen to shoot blanks...

I first heard these guys on radio station 98 Rock specail night. They decide to do play some new bands & they picked Trivium's Metallica cover of "Master of Puppets". I loved the cover, & come to find out that they screamed, & somewhat thrashed. I got specail edition & some of their good songs are on it. Songs: "Rain", "Drowned & Torn Asunder", "A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation", "Like Light to Flies", "Dying in Your Arms", "Departure", & "Master of Puppets". Trivium is a mixer of modern hardcore & old school thrash. START OFF WITH THIS ALBUM IF YOUR NEW !

Wooow, thanks Deezer for playing pull harder on the strings. This album is strong, can't explain what makes it so good but I really like it despite not listening to the genres much.

I really don't get how they are commercial

Because this really isn't way too different from standard melodic metalcore, when this was released literally during the peak of melodic metalcore. You have to admit this album does absolutely nothing new, it's just a well-made album with an incredible guitar tone and some great riffs.

Their "let's be Metallica" followup album didn't help their image either. Of course they became actually different after that, but early impressions are big, and they didn't pull a The Agonist or whatever in terms of creativity.

I know this isn't the most original album ever but that do not make it bad still to me there plenty of good ideas like you said (that guitar tone...), but to me it's still a litlle to harsh calling Ascendancy commercial
Oh that's why I don't like The Crusade... Trivium really turned into Metallica 2.0

One of the albums that got me into metal back in 2005. I had the special edition of this and used to enjoy watching the music videos with my friends at school.

9.9/10 for me, although I am fully willing to admit nostalgia bias in my rating - Ascendancy, Dying In Your Arms and Declaration are slightly weaker than the other songs.

Either I am too old to understand or you're just talking bollocks. If it's a case of the former, please enlighten me. If it's a case of the latter, please stop talking bollocks.

I'm not sure if the original video exists anymore as the lyrics are out of sync however look for Interpretation of Trivium. That was an ancient youtube video classic interpreting Pull Harder.

You said being old and didn't come across it in the day, I'm shocked. Though I wonder if reading that made some clue as to what its base is made from lol
