Additional info
New York's nebulous avant-garde metal outfit Imperial Triumphant redefine sonic darkness on their ambitious new album, "Vile Luxury". A turbulent, frenetic take on experimental noise and progressive black metal, Imperial Triumphant embody the most austere side of the New York underground. Chaos, menagerie, and the perils of the city clash with its reputation for majesty and extravagance. The band aim to portray the juxtaposition between high society and urban decay.

'Vile Luxury' combines the various musical elements that follow well within the tradition of music in New York, a monolith of the Western world, of constant experimentation and appropriation of all things that enter it, never leaving the same as it came.

Being inclined toward a considerable degree of artistic boldness and defiance of prevailing standards, it can often be difficult to say what really qualifies as "Avant-garde music" and what doesn't with any sort of authority. Whatever dietary supplements Imperial Triumphant are making use of in the morning, however, I think they're definitely hitting the mark for it.

This is some seriously harsh sounding shit. A lot of wall of noise mixed with black metal jazz. I love it.

"...Imperial Triumphant play fiery blackened-death metal, a la Deathspell Omega."
wtf deathspell omega is not a blackend death metal band and IT does not sound like them that much.

I find this record a bit tamed for my expectations. However, I do approve them collapsing their sound to drone-like textures in Chernobyl Blues and The Filth. also, guest vocals from Bloody Panda's are spot on.

That guy's reviews are usually bad, just read his Phrenelith review.

Dense as fuck listen and very challenging, but quite rewarding if you're willing to give it the time and attention.

Not sure why but I don't find this band difficult to listen to all. I guess because their music makes so much sense somewhere in the depths of my brain that it somehow just pieces it together in a way I'm not entirely conscious of. It's great anyway, they were on the last album and they still are here. Listening to it I actually feel there's very little connection to black metal, and the large influence has to be from jazz music and probably a variety of avant garde composers.

I'll have to make sure I see them live at some point. Seems like they don't have two simultaneous drummers after all, which I'm slightly disappointed at lel.

Yeah I keep seeing these guys tagged as Avant-garde or experimental BM and I don't get it either. Personally hearing way more death metal than BM in their sound, and even then it's blended with a bunch of jazz, drone, neoclassical, and other wacky influences.

Great jazzy undertones. Chernobyl Blues (what vocals) and Cosmopolis are my downright favourites.

Think I prefer Alphaville to this, but Chernobyl Blues is friggin sweet. Actually sounds like the screams of someone melting after staring at the Elephant's Foot for too long.

Revisited this album. Really well written. The vocals, the jazz undertones, the frantic drumming, the chaos all goes so well together.
