Epitaph is the latest album from the Danish power proggers Pyramaze. Now, I can say that I've liked every record from Pyramaze that I've listened to. However, the last record didn't really blow me away. It was put together really well, but ended up feeling a bit generic. Does Epitaph change that?

So bland and generic as it could be. Makes me sad cuz i feel like these guys can put out much better music than this.

Top tier power metal, one of the best albums this year. Overload of vast stellar melodies.

I kinda like it, surprised the score's so low - doesn't really feel like power metal though, leans more towards the prog side to me. Dunno if it's just cos of the name similarity but quite a few portions remind me of Teramaze

Edit: Yeah, the longer I listen, the more it makes me think of Teramaze, with hints of other similar bands. I thought some of the choruses were quite underwhelming, but otherwise it was perfectly enjoyable, if not something I'll revisit

I'm going through my second listen and this is pretty damn solid so far... probably somewhere in between 8 and 9 territory. I'm loving the energy and some of the added touches with the keys. Still not as good as Disciples of the Sun, but possibly better than Contingent.

doesn't really feel like power metal though,

My exact thoughts. I'm not too keen on power metal, so when I heard this I felt that it was far more enjoyable than I had expected it to be.

Very solid release---my first experience with this band. Before I played it, thinking of Jacob Hanson NOT being the lead vocalist placed high personal expectations upon the frontman of this band. I wasn't disappointed. Excellent performance. He has killer range. My immediate thoughts was a blend between Chris Cornell and Russell Allen.

It's funny the opposite parallels of Hansen being the bassist (/guitars) with backing vocals and the way things transpired with Henrik Fevre and Anubis Gate. It goes to show the talent of the Danes.

Looking forward to listening to this one again.

Same shit different title and cover. A few listenable and original tracks like "World Foregone" and "Particle" + the last track which has the previous 2 singers Matt Barlow and Lance King and they make the song better.
I don't agree with some of the previous comments that Hansen makes this band like Anubis Gate, they are nothing like them and the lack of the Power Metal ingredients make Pyramaze worse and not better.

The first 2 albums had great progressive power metal elements mainly due to former guitarist Michael Kammeyer's songwriting and Lance King's great vocals. Of course the keyboards and drumming are unique and actually they are the only 2 things that make the last 3 albums at least a little listenable.

Not their best but not bad, a bit generic and forgettable. There are some good songs, just too much filler.

Kind of the same album as Disciples and Contingent. Disciples is still my favorite from the 3. Most interesting part about this one is probably the final track with the triple vocal attack and the song Final Hour having a tribute to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody in the solo

First 5 songs are solid, has a couple of fillers but is an overall enjoyable and memorable album, with excellent atmosphere and melody. The only problem is, lack of variety. But hardly an issue when it's this enjoyable.
I am more a fan of this prog/melodic power sound as apposed to the earlier sound, so I can understand peoples' dislike for the new sound.
Last track is magnificent.

Pretty good record even if it's at the same time a bit predictable and boring. The talent is there and I do think it's slightly more intresting than a average power prog record. So I'll give it a 7.
