Nothing compares to isis!
In terms of being boring, uninspired and on a long downhill slide, you mean? They had basically two nice albums and that's it.

Iron, I didn't realize you weren't an Isis fan. I am surprised! I think Wavering Radiant is one of the best post albums ever! Curious to which two you think are decent?

I'm pretty mainstream: I like Oceanic and Panopticon. The rest of the albums are decent, but I don't feel they stand out in the genre at all. I think their two last albums were their two worst. Both In the Absence and Wavering Radiant had good moments, but other times they just sounded so tedious.
I don't really dislike their music. I guess it's like the Explosions In The Sky -effect: some mediocre band is praised to high heavens as a standard to measure the genre against, and that creates an unfavorable reaction.

Weird. I think Oceanic, Panopticon and Absense can be lumbed together - not much difference to me. Where as Wavering has some of most original post-metal song writing I've heard yet (especially the first 3 tracks). Oh well, this is what makes metal great; Everybody's specific tastes!

Irepress are so good. Really one of the best groups playing such heavier kind of post-rock. I like them way better than all that Russian Circles/Caspian/Pelican stuff.

Morne - Excellent post/sludge from the US. Asylum (their latest) was one of my favourite records last year:

I need to check their 2011 album out, the last one was quite good. Reminds me a bit of pg lost.
I need to check out the older Irepress' album, I've only heard their 2009 release.

OCOAI are pretty different. One of the songs off their latest reminds me of '70s prog rock and others have violins and organs. Not too typical of today's post-metal scene. Refreshing.

I tried to get into it but struggled...maybe I'll give it another shot. Oh yeah, not too may bands open up with a 17 minute track on their albums!

I couldn't find any youtube vids but he does have a bandcamp page. Check out Deathmole - Meade's Army. A one man band doing instrumental post-metal awesome!

I'd certainly advise sticking with it, took me a couple listens as well. Admittedly a 17 minute opener is an unusual (but good!) twist but "My Return" and a couple of other tracks make it well worth a go!
