@terrorizer I really hope the Panthers win their series. I think the team that wins that conference is going to steamroll the other side in the finals.
As I initially said, CL have gone past the glory days. There were times when Man City, United, Chelsea after lifting EPL, use to win CL trophy. It's just that EPL teams were far superior to any other league.
The CL is a joke because most of the teams competing are not even champions in their domestic leagues. I agree that it has become boring af. I am an Athletic Bilbao and Olympiakos supporter, so this has been an unforgettable year.
I find CL quite boring. Always the same teams in the play-offs and the always the same teams winning. Europa League and Conference League are way more interesting with a bigger variety of teams reaching far in the tournaments.
I couldn't find a topic like this, so I'm not sure if there's a lot of interest in it. But since one of the biggest reasons for my coming here is to discover new music, I think we ought to have a topic dedicated to recommending the latest and greatest music to have just been released. We have staff picks and great reviews already, but a lot of stuff goes under the radar. So share your exciting new discoveries or the comebacks of old favorites with the rest of us here.
I guess it's nice to start this from the beginning of the year, but you can of course recommend some 2010 albums you think were overlooked, too.
My recommendations that haven't already been covered by MS reviews are, so far:
Crowbar - Sever The Wicked Hand: Kirk got sober and found Jesus. Good for him, I guess. It doesn't show in the music, which is as thick, sludgy and melancholy as ever before. Another solid addition to an incredibly consistent discography, if not quite their strongest effort.
DoomSword - The Eternal Battle: I've been pretty unfamiliar with DoomSword for a long time even if I've known about them and heard a song here and there. That's still the case. From what I can tell, though, The Eternal Battle is not quite as doomy and epic as their first albums but rather leans towards traditional heavy metal with the faster riffs and stuff. Pretty impressive nonetheless, there's something authentic and endearing about the band. (Couldn't find a sample, sorry.)
Weedeater - Jason... The Dragon: The sludge/stoner act Weedeater buzzes and crushes away with a deep, heavy sound that really appeals to me. When they're loud, they're tight. There's some strange filler and interludes on this album that don't really fit in, though.
Orchid - Capricorn: Orchid have released a lauded EP already, but Capricorn is their first full-length. They play groovy old school Sabbath worship. It's not new, but why should it be when it's this good?
* Hipster metal. Jazz-metal, indie-metal, stoner metal. This is basically dumb rock music for loser dropouts.
* Nu-metal. Nu-metal, deathcore, nu-core, crabcore, whatever. It's all bounce for angry hip-hop fans.
* Bullshit traditionalism. Yeah, Blasphemy made three chord mess noise black metal back in 1992... the difference is that it was good.
I would never want to recommend any bands like the above to anyone I liked.
I understand your point of view for a part, I'm sometimes in such a melancholic mood myself but...
It's not that there are no good bands/albums after 1995!

Moon's 'Caduceus Chalice' is fast becoming one of the most played albums this year. Depressive (in tone anyway) ambient black metal in the vein of Xasthur and Velvet Cacoon's love child. And if you need a sterling endorsement both me AND Troy really like this (unless he's changed his mind) which isn't something that happens very often. Once in a blue moon you might say. Ho ho yes, I went there.

Still have to listen to it for LoM (deadline july 10), just got it off the haulix platform.
But seeing how you described it I am sure I will love it.

Are you ready to get your mind raped? Well, this is a cover of Black Sabbath's Paranoid and it's weird as hell but still good. This track is from the collaboration between Rotorvator and Rhuith (the name of the EP is "February") I can't really describe the music so just listen to the YT video.

Quite suprised no-ones mentioned Grayceon's All We Destroy. Probably the album of the year already for me.
Beautifully haunting and relaxing album. I love the singer's vocals. My fav of the year so far, but I think the new Graveyard album is trying to take that spot though. So good. :O

It's your fault i'm addicted to Grayceon and Giant Squid now.... Thanks!
Creepy industrial BM/ambient from the band Void. This track is from their debut EP and it sounds like The Axis Of Perdition but with a more calm atmosphere.
I don't think many people will like this but it works fine for me, ambient BM with a touch of psychedelia and those vocals maybe ain't the best but the atmosphere is good, this track is not from their new album but you should be able to hear what they sound like. ..btw, the name of the band is "Cold Empty Universe, thats fvcking kvlt.
And the new Iperyt album is good but I won't post another big video screen here

I like the album too, but I thought it's a 2010 release...?
