@Daru Jericho, do you know why they put 2 dots on the letter "o". I thought it was not english, and it was swedish or else? Is it same as "motorhead", if so I can guess its meaning

@Jet: probably because they think it looks cool or more metal that way...have no effect on the way to pronounce it I think

I don't know if it helps, but in German that ¨ is called umlaut. Also it changes the pronunciation a bit, but I think they put it in the band names just to look better...

Yeah, I thought they put it in the band name to make it look cooler as well. I mean, Motley Crue, Queensryche and Blue Oyster Cult have umlauts as well but they don't really make a difference. I can't remember how they're pronounced in German but if you took the Swedish pronounciation, the 'motor' bit would still sound the same. And I say Windir 'win-deer' although thinking about it some Norwegian might say 'win-dir (with a long I sound). I've even watched Windir's DVD and I can't remember if they pronounced it differently or not but I don't think so XD

25.02.2007 - 03:59 Written by FAITH & MUSIC on 24.02.2007 at 10:57 I always thought Helloween was just a play on the word Halloween (hence the pumpkin) and Hell. So literally 'hell-o-ween', like the English word 'hello'. I haven't heard of Melektaus but I personally would pronounce it 'mel-ek-tous' ('tous' rhyming with the word 'house').

I also thought pronouncing "Melektaus" same as you and Halloween is played word to be Heloween but the assumption that combination of Halloween and Hell is reasonable.

Thyrfing has been a name that's been bothering me for ages, I always say it 'THEER-fing', but I've heard 'THER-fing' and 'TER-fing' said too. Any Swedes around to tell us how to really say it? While I'm here, Ulver is another one that I'd like to get right, I say 'OOL-ver' (first bit like in the word 'wool' but without the 'w') but others say 'ULL-ver' (like in the words 'hull', 'dull').

@Dr.Rock: I think I would say it as a mix of your suggestions...like Ehn-sif-eer-uhm...with the i-sound from your sugg. instead of the e-sound of your friend. Hope I make sence?

I always thought it was like Teer. As in crying. Everyone else I know pronounces it like that as well. And my book on Norse gods has the Tyr pronounciation like that too and they got their name from Norse mythology.

Oh, weird, I'd just pronounce it like "tear" or "teer".. But hmmm, I have a little problem with Behemoth. We have the word in French Béhémoth, or Bahamut, or even Bahimut in arabic, which exists and refers to the same creature. You all know how to pronounce the "é", just like in "café", or, to give a easier example, as people pronounce "café" with and English accent : the "e" in "end". But, how to pronounce Behemoth ? The English way ? "Be" - "he" being uttered like "bee" - "hee" ? Or, is there a special way to pronounce it, as they are Polish ?

I agree with you for the last bit about English accent when pronouncing the band's names.. But it's not always easy to understand the band's intention when choosing a name. And, how do you pronounce Begemot ? Shall I look for the Polish translation for the word Behemoth to know how to pronounce their name ? Did they mean to call themselves Behemoth, the word "Behemoth" being the English one ? I have looked for that a bit in the band's biography, but i couldn't find the answer. Maybe I should ask Nervel. *Lost*
