So tell me, which band(s) is (are) the most melodic thing you've ever heard in this genre! I don't care if it's too mainstream like Sonic Syndicate nor if it's too raw like Gates of Ishtar... so come on! Gimme names!

Well, I think it is Deadlock

I dunno any bane whit such name who fits in this genre

There's few of bands with this name but the most sucessful one plays melodeath, so what's the problem?

according to MA only one ger band can be her eothers are demo bands and I doubt you ever had heard those demo

I never heard demos of the other bands. I'm talking about the german one.

As of late it's been In Flames... 'A Sense Of Purpose' didn't even feel like a metal album... a huge let down compared to previous albums such as "Whoracle' and 'Colony.'

I have to agree completely, but you forgot to mention the even more epic Jester Race. And I'd say Sonic Syndicate is a close 2nd.

In Flames is melodic and good, but the vocals on The Jester Race suck so hard.

Ah you see I completely disagree. I wouldn't say they were his best no, however I would not say his vocals sucked either on Jest Race; his best vocal performance would probably be Colony for me.

I'd say Avatar. Soft melodeath. I don't like what I heard from them. (suggestion from a friend)
For those don't about to rock.

As far as In Flames goes, their best were -
Colony
Whoracle

in that order, but the most melodic album was Clayman.

Seriously? - Wow...
Here's what I think..

In Flames - The Jester Race
At the Gates - Under a Serpent Sun
Dark tranquility - The Gallery
Insomnium - Across the Dark
Kalmah - Swamplord
Norther - Dreams of Endless War

Those albums are ALL, REALLY melodic, and if you don't like them, then you suck ass.

Also, check out my friend's band if you're bored - www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlJvKe-DCRs
They have some REAL potential to become large, please show them your support if you like it.
That is all.

The Exiled are a fucking good band! They've opened for Gama Bomb, Onslaught and Sepultura and are growing really quickly!
Sorry about being slightly off topic but they are a bloody good band haha

Umm...guys...this thread is for who you think is the MOST MELODIC Gothenburg band (read the title)...NOT who you think is the BEST gothenburg band...

Agreed. How is this?

Heres my list for THE MosT MELODIC GOTHENBURG bands

INSOMNIUM (my friend once described Insomnium as "pretty metal" b/c its so melodic, insomnium has my vote for THE Most Melodic Melodeath Band. also one of my fave bands in general)

IMPERANON (Great underrated band, Prolly cuz no one knows who they are cuz they disbanded after one album, but that one album is high quality melodeath and extremely melodic)

CHILDREN OF BODOM - First 3 Albums Only!!! (Incredibly melodic, textbook melodeath, could even go so far to say melodic death at its finest?)

KALMAH (extremely melodic and have some great stuff, but in spite of their technichal finesse and incredibly melodic guitars, they are kindof generic, their songstructures get boring and its not paricularly catchy making them, while incredibly talented, somewhat forgettable, though worth checking out for melodeath fans)

Those 4 bands The Most MELODIC Melodeath bands imo.

notable mention as very Melodic

-In Flames - early albums

Furthermore, although on varying degrees of the Melodicness of the Melodeath spectrum, here are other quality Melodeath bands

-At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul in particular, although the other albums are great, just a bit more raw
-Arch Enemy - any album
-Dark Tranquility - any album
-Norther - early albums
-Dissection - Reinkaos only (great, catchy, luciferianistic melodeath album, highly reccommend to melodeath fans)

I have heard of Imperanon but never actually listened to them in full detail but from what I've heard they are very good. Children of Bodom I'd have to say the last 4 albums have been textbook melodeath but the first 3?! Those are in no way "textbook" melodeath, entirely too classical/neo-classical influenced to be textbook melodeath. Kalmah I have to agree for sure they are good but not very memorable. And I also have to agree about the last bands at the end.

yea i guess CoBs first 3 albums are too neoclassical to be textbook(they were the first melodeath i listened to so maybe thats why i saw them that way) but they are wayy more melodic than theyre following albums so thats why i specified them.

You should give Imperanon a listen sometime if your big into melodeath. Stained isnt a perfect album but it definately has some good shit, including one of my favorite songs of all times, Hollow Man, gives me chills everytime. Vein I Bleed also a very good song.

Oh and I totally forgot to add a really good melodic death band tho.
Whispered. hav you heard of them psyko? they just debuted last year i think so they pretty new and also pretty unkown. they play melodeath mixed with traditional japanese instruments and the whole symphonic orchestra/choir deal, so it has folk metal and symphonic metal elements but its still melodic death metal at its core. definately worth checking out if your a fan of any of those three genres(those happen to be my fave three genres so i love them)

Yea I'm familiar with Whispered. They're good and I enjoy their addition of the japanese instrumentation but as far as the actual meat of the music it sounds a lot like all the rest of the finnish melodeath scene. If you stripped the japanese elements out of it they would just be another finnish melodeath band in a sea of thousands so they didn't really pique my interest that much. They are on a list of bands to go back and check on later though cuz when I found them I was in tech death mode so nothing else mattered if it wasn't tech death, lol. Speaking of great finnish melodeath bands though if you have never heard of Crystalic then I highly recommend them to you, absolutely amazing; I was real sad when they announced their break up earlier this year...

Nice! i just did a quick listen to them on youtube and liked everything i heard so ill be downloading them soon, thanx for the suggestion. and i totally kno wat you mean about the genre obsession from time to time. ive actually have taken a step bak from melodeath and been into folk or any sub genre mixing with sympho like septicflesh n shit lately. and it was good to get suggested some real melodeath. usually wen i get siggested melodeath it ends up being a metalcore band. lol.

I get wat ur saying about Whispered but i think the main probkem was that their album was a debut, so half the songs came from their very beginning (like demo and club days) and half of the songs specificly wrotten for the album. so it makes the album somewhat of a mixed bag and not completely refined. they announced that the next album would be
more like the songs Blade in the Snow, Thousand Swords and one other song i cant remember.(i got this info from their fb, but i dont think its been posted here at ms)

Anyway i think that regardless of the rest of the album Blade in the Snow is a masterpeice of a song.

Yea dude Crystalic was the best melodeath band in Finland imo. I had my sympho binge a couple years ago. I was on a tech death binge until recently, right now I'm just listening to Volbeat non-stop, such an amazing band if you've never heard of them I highly recommend them but they're not melodeath; they blend elements of Elvis Presley & Johnny Cash with metal, rockabilly and punk (it sounds weird but it's fucking amazing [and groovy] as hell). Yea that's why I put Whispered on my "go back to" list because they sound like they have some massive potential.

I think Dark Tranquillity and also Insomnium, Very melodic. I also think they are the best bands in genre. Special attention to last Insomnium album One for Sorrow. Last from Omnium Gatherum is very good and melodic. Before The Dawn is very melodic.
