Got the cd in my hands and the bandname tips its hat to a classic Gorguts album, the logo is reminiscent of the classic Obituary logo and the cover art is futuristic depicting something cosmological. Conclusion: This must be a technical death metal band. And, lo and behold, it is. What band and album am I talking about? Obscura's sophomore album Cosmogenesis, of course.

Definitely the most accessible Tech Death album I've ever listened to, imo

That's funny. I was just listening to that and thought i'd come over here to post something like this. But looks like you've beaten me... by a year

First track is phenomenal, the rest of the tracks have inconsistent quality imo, but that's considering I enjoyed the first track because it's heavily melody-based.

Almost feels like Death and Cynic revival, if that's a thing

Very good album indeed although it does lack consistency in certain areas. It's seriously technical for sure, but also quite melodic, and the musicianship is obviously top notch. The riffs are decent and all but the drumming is fantastic, and that fretless bass work is easily the best thing about this album for me, it's just outstanding!

I often thought Beyond Creation's Aura had the best bass work in death metal but now I'm not so sure whether it could be this I also hear alot of Cynic influences in this too, but Obscura take tech death to another level imho.

Listen to first fragment if you haven't already, last year's album was mind blowing (and it's the same bass player as beyond creation)

I've not listened to that one yet, but I will do at some point. Lapointe is a phenomenal bass player so knowing his the bassist for First Fragment's release last year makes me want to listen to it all the more. thanks for recommending it to me

I've been revisiting this album a lot lately. Pretty much sums up what tech death is all about, the songs are ultra-technical but equally accessible, so for me it's the perfect gateway into the world of tech death.

It seems like the band has taken a more melodic approach over time with each release getting more easily digestible and catchy, and their latest certainly is, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's better, they got it spot on here.
