...and all of a sudden you see all these fake ass voters, all of whom registered 12hrs ago, just to dish out 10s and up-rate it into the heavens. It's Falling Leaves syndrome all over again. The things people do in the name of promotion... - -

Account deleted Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 18.08.2013 at 22:43 I have yet to check this out, and I quite like the cover art as well. Though I have no idea about Falling Leaves and how they actually sound, their "band suggestion" incident really took the taste off my mouth, just like this one. BTW, I have nothing 'gainst Enshine. Quite nice, in fact.

It's good, melodically rich, and the growls are actually great, but nowhere near some of the other death-doom albums released this year as an overall product.

02.10.2013 - 21:57 Rating: 8 Written by Alex F on 19.08.2013 at 01:23 Well, you are way more into black and death metal than melodic death doom metal (which is exactly what this is), so it's not strange that you have that opinion. Despite the growls that are a bit over-the-top sometimes, I agree with Marcel on this album.

02.10.2013 - 22:05 Written by Erik M. on 02.10.2013 at 21:57 Just because "melodic death doom" isn't my favorite subgenre does not whatsoever de-validate my opinion. I'm also very much into; psych-folk, breakcore, IDM, hip-hop/rap, trip-hop, and endless other genres outside of metal. I'd like to think that we can all pass opinions on music without being bashed for not loving that particular style. Sorry this wasn't really a rant aimed at you, just something that's been bugging me for a while.

03.10.2013 - 02:40 Rating: 8 Written by angel. on 02.10.2013 at 22:03 I don't see how you would rate this a 6.5, especially seeing as you think Officium Triste is awesome. Not saying they sound exactly alike, but I definitely hear some similarities... well, and they're both melodic death doom metal of course. Sure, you could argue the growls on this one aren't that good sometimes, but is that a reason to rate it so low? Your opinion of course, but I'm just totally baffled this is your honest opinion. Written by angel. on 02.10.2013 at 22:04 The debut of Falling Leaves is not nearly as good as this one since it's actually rather generic (at least, that's what I remember it to be). Still a good album nonetheless for me and also don't see what the problem is with that album other than not being excellent.

03.10.2013 - 02:45 Rating: 8 Written by Alex F on 02.10.2013 at 22:05 Whoa there, take it easy there bud. I only tried to explain why you only rated this a 7. Not saying you're wrong or anything, but like in Mary's case I'm just curious. It's funny because Marcel and I, with both our favourite genres being doom metal, think this is excellent melodic death doom metal (which is probably my favourite subgenre of them all, along with atmospheric black metal). Hence why I'm curious to your reasoning. But if you don't feel the need to justify yourself then just don't respond to this message.

03.10.2013 - 17:57 Rating: 6 Written by Erik M. on 03.10.2013 at 02:40 well I have no certain reason for it to be honest, it just sounds boring the same old things I heard are repeated over and over, I don't like it, because it seems they made music out of a template.hmm I hope I could clarify it Perhaps Chalice of Doom is much superior to Falling Leaves, but still nothing to get excited about it, Falling Leaves was plain mediocre release anyway

03.10.2013 - 21:48 Written by Erik M. on 03.10.2013 at 02:45 Sorry like i said that rant wasn't necessarily pointed at you. I find the songwriting on this to be really generic for the style, and the overall feel is just way too fluffy for me to enjoy. I love melo-death-doom if it's done right... This isn't bad by any means, just kinda "meh" feeling.

Far from being disappointing. It's one of those cases that I don't care that much about the originality. Then again, melodic death metal and doom metal are done over and over.

04.10.2013 - 18:25 Rating: 8 Written by angel. on 03.10.2013 at 17:57 Ah okay then, thanks for clearing it up (a little). Written by Alex F on 03.10.2013 at 21:48 Ah I see. Well, I don't really care a whole lot about songwriting as long as it's not truly bad. And well, when it comes to songwriting Officium Triste also can be quite generic or very simple. Hell, my favourite album by them, Reason, has some pretty bad songwriting going if you ask me, but I still think it's a brilliant album.

I think people don't understand the meaning of a 10/10 album... It writen just beside... PERFECT. ... and perfect in metal for me means genre/subgenre revolution Between Saturnus and that. I won't see a lot of difference. I'm listening it right now and it's quite good actually, but an overall of 8.7... Come on

I enjoyed this album. It seems like there are a lot of mixed feelings on it from the posts here. Just remember, everyone has an opinion and tastes that differ from your own, and what the ratings 1-10 represent for you may be different for someone else. That is why the album rating itself is an average of all that. The individual ratings generally ballance out in the end, so don't spend too much energy worrying about someone's really low or high vote.

13.11.2013 - 23:39 Rating: 8 Written by gnirpz on 27.10.2013 at 18:33 How ironic it's actually you who doesn't understand the meaning of a 10/10 album. Never has there ever been a literally perfect album, so therefore no album could be a 10/10. First of all, 10/10 translates to "perfect" here on MS. On other websites it might translate to "masterpiece" or "brilliant". Those last two are a far better description of a 10/10 album since as I said no album is perfect. Secondly, you can choose between a 9 and 10 here on MS (and many other sites as well), so you can't give an album a 9.5 for example. If you think an album is worth a 9.5 or maybe a little more, what else can you do but rate it a 10? Sure, you can still give it a 9, but what exactly would be the point of that? My point now is that barely anyone hands out perfect 10's. That is only seen in reviews and in my opinion it is never justified. So the highest I'd go for rating an album would be a 9.9, just because there's always at least one minor thing about an album that you don't like... at least, that's the case for me.

14.11.2013 - 02:54 Written by gnirpz on 27.10.2013 at 18:33 true but how the hell is it possible that you rate 21 (TWENTY ONE) out of just 326 albums you voted on? That is 6.44% and that is a HUGE amount of perfect albums (compare it to me with 6 perfect scores on a total of 1833 votes here on MS which is 0.37% and to be honest I find 6 perfect scores on that amount actuakky a ot. If all the albums I won were here and I could vote it would more likely be just those siox perfect scores on a total of over 6,000 albums) albums as perfect? And most of those albums are far from perfect imo. Not even an 8 worthy. Funny how someone who gives perfect scores that easily gets upset by people who give this album a perfect score. I would rate this album higgher than which is Death's worst album by far Death - The Sound Of Perseverance and esepcially anything done by Gamma Ray the worst album by Yngwie Yngwie Malmsteen - Concerto Suite For Electric Guitar And Orchestra In E Flat Minor, Opus 1 anything done by Between The Buried And Me QUo Vadis WIntersun he Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal Death - Symbolic Dark Forest - Land Of The Evening Star Rush - Moving Pictures Metallica - S&M [Live] with your 21 perfect score it seems you are extremely easily pleased yet whine when people award Chalice Of Doom a 10. You got a personal beef with them? Did they kil your cat, dog, or goldfish?

14.11.2013 - 22:46 Rating: 8 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 14.11.2013 at 02:54 It just heavily depends on the definition of a 10/10 rating. For you two it literally means perfect, but for me it means "masterpiece". Hell, I have 22 10's and 400+ votes but not all of those are true 10's of course (most aren't). Seeing his definition of a 10/10, he indeed has a lot of 10's. However, going by my definition it's not a lot at all. I took a look at all his 10's and I agree with not one of them, but I haven't even heard most of them though. Oh, and I noticed you gave Mercyful Fate's debut a 10 as well, your 6th 10. Six 10's out of 1800+ votes is extreme though and barely anyone here on MS has a lower percentage of 10's than you. Also funny you think 21 10's is a lot while there are people here with literally hunderds of 10's or even more than a thousand 10's. Yes, I'm thinking of a specific MS user whose name I won't mention here. By the way, you said the best debut album ever is Van Halen on my debut albums list. When you wrote that, you at least forgot about Candlemass' debut it seems.
