Nope, that would be Manowar after their fourth album.

I actually listened to them today. Not much different from Blood Stain Child but seems like their target is a teenage audience. Don't think it's anything bad, and as horrible as the vocals were, there was some music there and even some innovation. If this is what gets people into metal these days, so be it I guess.

Actually, I think Manowar is an insult also, their whole discography.

The frontwoman's sidekicks will probably be in college before the purists quit bellyaching about these kids, huh.

I look at things this way: despite the successes of X, Aion, Loudness, etc., metal's still a commercially-fringe genre in Japan. By targeting the staple J-idol demographics of "otakus" (geeky male 20/30-somethings) and preteen girls, Babymetal are helping take metal to audiences who wouldn't otherwise be exposed to the genre. Granted, for most it'll be a novelty, but for some, it'll have them hooked for life.

In the long term, these girls are going to be better for J-metal than Marty Friedman could ever dream of being.

Eh, they have an original sound and they pull it off rather well. Is it gimmicky? For certain, but they could have easily done a lot worse with the same gimmicks. Honestly I just like them because they're having simple fun.

This isn't some "ending of metal as we know it" nor is it some "revolutionary band to change the way we view music". It's just a fun, quirky little act that everyone but theirselves blows over the edge on both sides of the coin.

If they're going big, then good on them.

I'm not sure if it's as much teenagers as their target audience, as it is metal for man-children. Many of my non-metalhead weeabo friends seem to enjoy them. Yet, I have to admit "Gimme Chocolate" is catchy as fuck.
