Few bands have left me speechless with their music, even fewer I would ever call perfect, and fewer still where tragedy has struck a promising band such that the music is too much to get through without thinking about the backstory of the band's short lifespan. Trees Of Eternity was certainly something special.

What a brilliant album.
its sad to read about Aleah, she dead before releasing the album, this really broke my heart.

You may want to check Hallatar; they're pursuing her legacy (and their first album is out this Friday).

Well I was going to give this a 9, but I reconsidered.

Never heard of the band until I saw the sad news about the singer a while back. I finally I listened to this for the first time a couple days ago. Pleasantly surprised.

Nice. Different. Soul-touching.

Eye Of Night my favorite track.

Very good stuff.
Some Excellent songs (Eye of night, a million tears), some very good ones (broken mirror, black ocean), and couple of slightly weaker ones, some of them a bit lame at times (title track, the passage).

No I am not trying to get the ratings changed, but this album hit me in a way no metal album has ever had before, on top of being very well constructed musically, for me this album is a 10++++

Female fronted doom is not necessarily my favorite kind of doom, but for some strange and inexplicable reason, I really love Suldusk's stripped down adaption of "Sinking Ships":

That band is good, slower more sifter touch of doom inspired. I like it.

That song is best what they did. I like it, friends o mine did instrumental jam, did not find female singer, i did fix one, sorts she was in a band, but they broke up. I wish all booze, garage Umeå sessions
Would be recordet, not lost in eternity. One or 2 albums would come out.

This is the most recent entry on the Top 200 Albums list. Crazy that in almost 6 years there haven't been any releases good enough to make the list.

Each year between 1969-2016 has had at least 1 album make the top 200 (apart from 2014). Has the quality in music declined in recent years?

I would not judge the quality of all metal releases solely by the number of standout albums. One should rather compare median ratings of all albums by year of release, and it would indeed be interesting to see the result.
As for the Top 200, well, if you have a fixed number of spots (200) and every year tons of new releases add to the bulk that is already out there, I claim it naturally gets increasingly crowded in the top 200 ranks over time.

This was a bit of a blind buy. I was aware of the story behind this band and album but never checked it out when it was released. Svart records made a big sale not too long ago to clear some space in their offices but also to celebrate their 15th anniversary as a label. The violet double vinyl looked very enticing so I went for it. I'm not really sure what expectations I had because I kind of left this genre a long time ago. Theatre Of Tragedy was the only gothic doom band with female vocals I really liked.

I didn't want to spoil myself by listening to a few tracks before purchasing the album. For some reason I just went for it. I'm glad I did. The crushing riffs, beautiful melodies and potent drumming are all excellent and the production is some of the most pristine I've ever heard from this style of music. Even a streaming from youtube feels 4K with this album. But yeah, the vocals are something else indeed. I was reading the lyrics while listening to the vinyl. Damn, they are really harrowing specially considering her premature death. This will definitely get many repeats with red wine at night.

Thank you, Aleah.

You might want to check out the album by Hallatar too if you haven't. Obviously Aleah doesn't do much singing on it, but she is in one song and all the lyrics are hers. Plus Juha Raivio wrote the music for that one too because he wanted to make something with all the other material she left behind. It's a bit of a different vibe but it should definitely be viewed as a companion piece to this album.

10 years later, this is still one of the greatest gothic doom albums. RIP Aleah.
