Meatloaf fascinates me because I can't think of any other artist that better syntheses the ideals of both heavy metal and hard rock. Like, it has both the epic drama of hell and the mundane drama of sex, and the aesthetics are similarly blended. His style is so distinctive it got it's own label of "Wagnerian Rock". Anyone know of any other artists like this?

Metal Rasputin
Jim Steinman's Bad for Good. The main problem with the album is that Jim couldn't really sing, but the music is amazingly well written and Meatloaf even covered many of them later. I think the album was originally meant for Meatloaf, but he had some health issues so he couldn't sing at the time.

Jim was a damn genius, the man had a very cartoony and over the top sense of humor, but he was a beast when it came to catchy epic songs. I think he also wrote songs for Pandora's Box and some for the soundtrack of "Streets of Fire", both are great. Not necessarily rock but power pop, though.
