For a first LP, it can be said that Conifère already knows how to do things right.
After four years of existence, this Quebec band decided to release their first half-hour album. For my part, I discovered them with this LP; I had never heard of them before, so I didn't listen to their demo or their split with the Montreal band Sol Miracula.
What makes me write these lines is the strange contribution of certain elements of other genres that make listening to the album particularly intriguing. The guitars oscillate from the classic saturated riffs that made the genre famous to a more rock style, which contrasts with the rest of the instruments. The riff that can be listened to in "Décombres Fumants" for example is very original, almost joyful, and in comparison to its much more classical parts, it allows L'impôt Du Sang to grab the curious attention of the listener. The result is that the mix is very well exploited; I didn't have the impression that they stuck two genres together or added one genre on top of another as can be heard with some other genre fusion albums. On the contrary, the parts line up very well without disturbing the listening experience.
Another very striking moment is the solo in "Le Grand Hyver", which is very punky, or at least not at all black metal. The riff of "Furia", accompanied by the bass, an instrument too neglected by this genre for me, is also strange, yet the rhythm of the album is not more disjointed.
The music that concludes the album is much more classical, and yet very effective. I was never bored listening to it, and you could say that's easy for a 30-minute album, but I would go so far as to say that it is always interesting, first of all for its original moments, but also for its much more classic parts, which are also very successful.
It's true that the album could have lasted longer; it's a bit short in my opinion, and could have allowed itself to settle a little longer. However the 30 minutes that I spent listening to this album are well placed. For those who want to make a good discovery, you should know that the album L'impôt Du Sang by Conifère is worth listening to.
